Reminiscence

I have applied only to this college, St. Berchmans College, Changanacherry where I did my graduation too. I got into the merit list. The minimum mark to enter into the merit list was 8.9 CGPA. There was no age restriction for the postgraduate program. There was an induction program at the first and the faculty provided the syllabus and all other details.

St. Berchmans College is one of the best Arts and Science Autonomous Colleges in Kerala celebrating its centenary this year! It is a college with exceptional academic performance and a perfect campus for all passionate, ambitious, studious and talented students to enhance themselves in all the way and for a successful career. St. Berchmans college has the best faculty in all departments. The professors are very friendly, broad-minded and erudite. The systematic organisation in the Examination controlling office monitors the examinations and provide the results very soon. Most of the faculty possess a PhD and some others are doing their research. Associate and Assistant professors in the department employ all the new ways of teaching and methodology followed by them are being updated each year with the trend. The tradition of excellence projected by the college draws everyone to the campus. In a nutshell, St. BERCHMANS COLLEGE IS A MYSTERY!

Since I'm from English Department, students from Vocational English and are asked to do a compulsory internship at any of the News Paper offices and it is a 2-month internship. During that time they will be trained to write newspaper reports, articles, editing, proofreading and so on. Like there are internships for students according to their respective departments.

The Placement cell sends invitations to companies and organisations along with relevant information to conduct campus interviews for their requirements. Final semester students from UG and PG are allowed for the campus recruitment. Banks like SIB, Federal Bank, CSB and IT organisations like TCS, Infosys, HCL Technologies, Wipro etc are the major ones. The offer varies according to the hiring team. Some companies offer 3-5 LPA and so on. In 2020-2021 academic year more than 100 students were placed. My plan is to take B.Ed.

Being an aided college, St. Berchmans College takes only the Govt. fee and the college doesn't ask for any kind of extra admission fee to anyone. For the PG program, there is an admission fee common to all students which are 10000 and students are asked to pay only the examination fee during their End-Semester exams. The college provides several scholarships for students who stand first in academics and for students who can't afford the fee. Campus recruitment in the year 2021 was at its peak and more than 25 companies came and hired our students. More than 100 students were placed this year.

St. Berchmans College is famous for its Inter-Collegiate fest and other highly esteemed programs and seminars. The main functions are as follows; Berchmas Award for the Best College Teacher in Kerala. Berchmans Erudite Lecture Series. SB Luminary Award to the Best Outgoing student, Intercollegiate Debate Competition, Life Guidance programme. Alumni Meet, Science Aptitude Developer Programs, Berchmans Day, Along with this general event, there are numerous programs and fest conducted by departments. The College library houses the best collection in the whole of the university. The entire library is computerised and contains 137617 books, 230 journals and magazines and 6000 back volumes of journals. Other main attractions and unique features of SB are as follows: Human Resource Development Department, Changanacherry Civil Service Institute, Placement Cell, Departement of Short term programs, film club, quiz club and a lot more.
