Manan Pande's Review On UPES, Dehradun

I appeared for JEE(mains), VITEEE, BITSAT, Pantnagar Entrance exam. I opted UPES because of following reasons. It has good infrastructure and placement record, Well qualified faculty.

The course curriculum is well planned and it encourages research. It is nicely framed according to the needs of an engineering student and there is a lot of scope of research in engineering fields.All the important subjects required for a particular subject are all included.

Since I'm a first-year student, I don't have much idea about internships as of now. But as far as I've heard from seniors college provides internships in well reputed organisations.

UPES is renowned for its placements. Various companies recruit freshers from here at a good package. Since the college offers programs of various sectors so there are a large number of companies from various sectors involved. The average package is somewhere between 4-6 lakh. The highest package is mostly bragged by petroleum engineering students.

There are many events which keep taking place in college. The mega event is URJAA which is the cultural fest of the college and is the best in Dehradun. Apart from URJAA there are technical fests which are organised in the college by various student chapters.

The fee structure is a setback as UPES is a very expensive college. The fee is very high. Hostel fee is justified but academic fee is very high. The fee for first semester is around 1.3 lakh which increases upto 1.9 lakh by 8th semester. The total fee (including hostel) is approximately more than 4 lakh per year.

Scholarships are provided by the college. There is a 25% fee waiver for Uttarakhand domicile student who fulfil a certain criteria. There is also a scholarship for 1st year students who have a +90% aggregate in PCM.

Campus of UPES is full of diversity as students are from various places. A large number of extracurricular activities are organised in the campus by various student chapters and clubs. These clubs also organise various workshops and guest lectures.

Hostel facilities are very good. Rooms are all well planned and all the facilities are available. There is 24*7 electricity and water supply. The mess food is average. Sometimes it is very good but other times it is just enough to keep us alive. Also there is a shortage of campus hostel seats so most of the students stay in private hostels and PGs which are easily available nearby.

UPES has a very strong alumni network. Seniors are very helpful. They are always ready to help regarding any query that we have. They also help in studies by telling the right approach for any subject.

The exam structure is well planned. Following examinations take place throughout a semester : 2 common class tests, 1 mid semester exam, 1 end semester exam. Labs are an integral part of the time table and there is continuous evaluation in labs. So in conclusion the schedule is not very hectic and is easily manageable.

I got admission through board merit in this college as I was not able to appear for its exam. In board merit pathway there are a total of 10% seats of the total intake capacity of the program. After registration rank is provided based on which counselling takes place.

The faculty of the college is highly qualified and well trained. Each faculty has a good grasp over their subject and encourages students to think out of the box. They also have good communication skills so they are able to express their ideas effectively.
