Remarks

Sardar Patel Institute of Technology as an N.I.R.F. ranking of 125 amongst all colleges in Mumbai. It is an autonomous college, so the curriculum changes according to the changes in industry. The college has better placement status as Elite companies like Microsoft, VMWare, WorkIndia, Deutsche Bank visit the college. Recently the college has started a Minors and Honors Certification. The admission process is through 2 rounds of CAP and 4 rounds of Institute Level Admission which start in the month of June and can go till first week of August. The website for selecting this college - https://www.spit.ac.in/

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I chose Electronics as I have an interest in designing products using both hardware and software. Electronics is a broad field with focus on circuit analysis and design, simulation, implementation and testing. We also learn to design Printed Circuit Boards which are used in most of the appliances used at our homes. Moreover, if you choose Electronics, there is scope for Masters abroad in this field. The faculty at S.P.I.T is are qualified and dedicated to educate the students. Many of them have PhD or are pursuing their PhD. The faculty student ratio is 1:24. As the faculty are experienced, students are exposed to the industry knowledge of each course. The term exams are 1 months apart. We have 2 unit tests, 1 mid term and 1 end semester. Yes, it is difficult to pass the end semester exams as the whole syllabus is considered. Due to this reason, students try to score higher in the unit tests and the mid terms.

Internships Opportunities

4

Currently, the college offers a 6 month industry internship in the 6th semester of Engineering which is considered as a part of the curriculum. Recently there have been on-campus internship opportunities from JPMC through Code For Good for the role of Software Development and Deutsche Bank for the same with a stipend of around 50k. Other than this, we have non-tech internships offered by SPTBI (Incubation Center) as a research analyst, business development, etc. Projects given by these companies are software development based , where a part of the software is assigned to the intern for increasing the functionality or maintenance. For non-tech companies, the projects are focused on increasing business by coordinating with clients, providing new business strategies, etc.

Placement Experience

4

Students become eligible for campus placements in the 8th semester of Engineering. SPIT has good placements and job opportunities as there are many Elite companies such as Microsoft, WorkIndia, VMWare, Deutsche Bank, Morgan Stanley which visit the campus. Apart from these there are super dream and dream companies such as JPMC, Credit Suisse, Nomura, Quantiphi and then there are mass recruitment companies such as LTTS, L&T and Infosys. The highest CTC as per 2020-21 batch 42 lpa and the average CTC is 10.96 lpa . The profiles offered are tech based - Web development, software development, Technology Analyst and Non-tech based - Incestment Banking, Business Development, Business Analyst, etc. For the year 2020-21, 90-95% students were placed in these companies but the Electronics score was 75-80%. My plans after getting a degree are to go abroad for Masters in Germany as they offer good courses in Embedded Systems domain (which requires both hardware and software knowledge) of Electronics.

Fee Structure And Facilities

There was a 5% increase in fees after the 2014-15 admissions. After my admission, there has been no increase in the fees and have maintained to Rs. 1,72,804. The college does not provide scholarships at this moment but there were government schemes through which one student could have applied for scholarships. There are no jobs on campus.

Campus Life

4.5

The annual techno-cultural fest of SPIT is named as Oculus which is conducted in the month of March. It includes technical events, cultural events, fun events and pronites. The college library has a vast collection of books and journals in each subject. Before the start of a semester , the book bank provides the students with the required coursework. The classrooms are air conditioned and have cross-ventilation. Some of the classrooms have a Smart TV installed with projectors. There are a variety of sport activities , during the online semester we had Online activities such as Valorant, Call of Duty and Chess Tournaments. Offline activities such as Volleyball, Cricket, Football, Badminton were conducted. Other than this, we had a Hackathon organized for second year students. We have the Rotaract Club at SPIT which organize events such as blood donation camps, awareness camps.

During the admission process there were no group discussions or interviews or any particular test given by the college but a student has to have higher marks in MHT-CET or JEE Mains with 45% and above in 12th standard.
