A Guiding Light for Students Journey in GGSIPU

The admission process of GGSIPU is quite smooth and straightforward for this course. Since the MA English course is available only on the main campus, the process is very hassle-free. There are 60 seats in the program and admission is solely based on merit in IPU CET. You need to have a rank below 100 to be assured of admission. The entrance exam is of medium difficulty level. There are about 3 rounds of counseling and the cutoff rank increases in each subsequent round according to the availability of seats. There is also a spot round at the end, in which admission is provided for all vacant seats on a merit basis. Upon selection, students need to come to the campus for document verification and payment of fees.

The course curriculum is really unique and creative. The promising syllabus was the main reason I chose this college. In the second year of the study, students are free to choose their own subjects of interest among the many available options. The faculty here is well qualified. All of them have completed their PhDs. Regular classes take place. They also have many research scholars who assist teachers with teaching postgraduate students. The faculty-student ratio is about 1:8. The teaching methodology involves lectures, presentations, seminars, etc. In each semester, one has to appear for minor exams as well as the end-semester exams. The format is the same across all courses offered by the university. The MA English exams are fairly easy to pass.

Internship opportunities from a few NGOs, government institutions, and private companies have been advertised by the college Placement cell. All students are informed about them through email. The roles for which internship opportunities have been made available to us are Marketing, Content Writing, Fundraising, Social Media Management, and Teaching. The stipend varies for each role, though the average stipend offered is about 4000 rupees per month.

The fee structure is a little high, as compared to other government universities. The fees paid for the first year were Rs.79000. It was hiked by Rs.9000 in the current academic session. It is not expected to increase any time soon. The college does provide decent assistance to students from financially poor backgrounds. They are eligible for fee concessions and scholarships. The university provides job and internship opportunities through its placement cell. The opportunities for MA English students are however limited.

The campus is very peaceful and is located in a remote place in Dwarka. It also has NLU Delhi in its close vicinity. Being the main campus of the university, the campus is always functional. Thousands of students study at the main campus in different University schools that have been assigned different blocks. Hostels for students and staff are also there inside the campus. The GGSIPU campus boasts a huge library and one can easily find relevant books, journals, and magazines. The playground is also well maintained and many sports competitions are held here. There are multiple small parks too. The classrooms are mostly air-conditioned and the amenities are decent. There are many clubs that help students to pursue their talents and hobbies. Some popular clubs among MA English students are Aveksha, the theatre society, and Abhivyakti, the literary society. The annual cultural fest, Anugoonj, draws thousands of people to the main campus and is a much-awaited event.
