Remarks

Its a human organisation honestly flaws are inevitable, course structure as in these type of professional studies are not adequately revised to follow fast changing trends but prepare you with the basic and affordable.

Entrance Preview

Took an entrance examination and seventeenth among all the applicants score wasn't mentioned though it was around fifty students who were called for an interview. Written test was mainly consist of writing exercises and a bit of GK and English grammar.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

Course was divided into eighteen papers for two years (nine each) including mass-communication theories, media law, advertising, journalism, editing (print), television, cinema, public relations, rural communications etc with in hand experience with online editing and camera. Projects performed included documentaries, surveying, news coverage etc. Frequent seminars were also organised as well as students get chances to participate in several other events and seminar in other organisations.

Internships Opportunities

Internships and general stipends might be available from the university on certain grounds but mass-communication department has no such facilities available.

Placement Experience

3

While studying as said earlier students get to participate in several events, introduced to many people, has to complete a training session in a leading newspapers. All India Radio, recruiters from Bengali And English newspapers and tv news channels visit the campus. Students are also encourage to approach directly.

College Events

4.5

Seminars on mass-communication theories in national and international level, publication of a bilingual newspaper exclusively from the department other than university newspapers, cultural competition among the university students, cultural competitions among the students of university and colleges under the university, university drama competition, university fests and other events inside or outside department were regularly organised.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Students has to pay per month or can deposit there fees one time at the beginning of the each year. Amount was nominal as per year it was around five thousand including teaching and library fees but participating in events, seminar, workshops and laboratories are extra.

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarship facilities can be looked into university website but loans are not available from the institution itself though outside banks might provide loans.

Campus Life

3.5

No gender discrimination, gender ratio was around 40:60 (m:f) in the department and it was almost same in the university. University hostels are full of students from different states, of different languages and students from same departments are not allowed to stay together instead pupil from different departments are encouraged to mix. A separate hostel fest and events were organised where all the boys and girls hostels compete with each other.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

Hostel facilities are not that good especially food and seats are few. One has to share rooms with two or three girls. But it is very cheap. Outside PG facilities are available and rents are feasible and foods are available too. Outside in case of girls its 4000 to 4500 is normally what was asked including food.

Alumni/Alumna

Other than traditional alumni and senior student meets they are invited to participate in several events and in the fest with current students to develop rapport and providing new learning opportunities.

Exam Structure

Duration of the course is two years and each year students has to appear for nine papers of hundred marks each and have to acquire pass marks in all of them as failing in one them means they have to reappear for all nine papers again and stay back for a year. Computer and video editing labs are of long hours though huge fun, really an experience to remember.

Admission

The advertisements were published in leading newspapers though willing students advised keep checking the website of the university after the completion of graduation. Forms can be collected from university counter or online but the time I took the entrance it has to be submitted offline at the designated counter.

Faculty

4

In house faculties were numbered at that time, only four though devoted and covered most of the syllabus but the real deal were the visiting faculties from industry from whom one can learn skills of true business. These visiting faculties are kept changing and all of them might not be excellent but at the end fell never bellow a minimum standard.
