Remarks

I chose Zakir Hussain College because it is one of the good college of Delhi University having more than 19 departments offering a large number of courses including the sciences, humanities, social sciences, commerce and languages. And, getting into any college of Delhi University is a dream for everyone. So, I consider myself fortunate enough to get into a good college. The admission is merit-based which starts in the month of June. The good aspects of the college is that it's one of the colleges of Delhi University where the teachers are really supportive and helpful. It has different societies of the college which helps us to enhance our skills as well as the fests of the college and departments are very great. The bad aspect about the college is that it's reputation is grossly undervalued largely because of Religion, Politics and misplaced perceptions. I have chosen Wikipedia to know about this college before getting the admission and it has given me a brief information about this college.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

I wanted to study zoology because I want to be a wildlife conservationist. It focuses on a study of the structure, biology, development, physiology, ecology and evolution of animal life. The Department boasts of a faculty of eminent teachers who have won acclaim in their field of study and all of them are PhD. The Department has two laboratories which are well equipped. It also has a museum. Every academic session, the students are taken on an educational trip by the Department which proves to be very beneficial in their understanding of the subject they are pursuing. The Department also holds a Zoology Fest, which bring to the core of the creative potentials of the participants. The exams are conducted in semester mode first in the month of November- December and second in the month of May-June. The results are declared after 1 or 2 months post conducting the exams. The pass percentage is very high and we can easily achieve good marks if we have studied well with good discipline.

Internships Opportunities

5

I got an unpaid internship with Lal Path Labs and I was associated with "Blood Group Project" where we used to visit the slum areas and helping people in determining their blood groups. I worked for about 6 months and it was challenging for us to work because most of the people were not aware of it and it was difficult for us to make them ready for it. We have almost done 6000+ tests successfully.

Placement Experience

4.5

Our college has a separate placement cell and the greatest success of the Cell has been the successful initiation of a campus recruitment drive with highest package offered 6 Lakhs per annum. Companies like Barclays, ICICI, Wipro, Genpact, Livewel Aviation Industry, Max New York Life Insurance Co., Google and Wipro Technologies selected candidates and also recruited some second year students for internship program. 75% of all students enrolled with the cell were absorbed in various positions. Some students have also been enrolled in free coaching classes for various competitive exams through the Ministry of Minorities Affairs. My plan is to work in the research field so it has boosted my self confidence and provided me a plethora of opportunities and full of knowledge .

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fees of my college specifically for the course of the B.sc Zoology Hons. is extremely low and easily affordable and manageable. The fee for the 1st year is 14186 INR/-. There is some reduction in fees for the weaker sections of the society. The reserved category of students enjoys some of the benefits.

Campus Life

4.5

Zeenat is the annual cultural fest organized by my college. The annual Zakir Husain Memorial Lecture honors an eminent educationist, nationalist, and a very distinguished former President of India, Dr. Zakir Husain. It's a three-day event where many competitions take place. The different societies of the college help us to bring out the best in us and help us to build our personality. They give us many opportunities to work and help us to know about our interest areas. Mirza Mehmood Beg Library is the College Library of Zakir Husain Delhi College and it is one of the oldest libraries in Delhi University system, which came into existence way back in 1792 with the foundation of the College. It is fully air conditioned with a total collection of around 1,10,000 documents. It has a thriving Arts and Culture Society engaging in activities like dance, music, theatre. Academic societies like the Writing Club, Debating Society, Quiz Society and all the department clubs. Football is the pride of the College as it is winning the University tournament and is a perennial favorite.

Acharya Narendra Dev College - [ANDC], Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] {Hons.} (Biomedical Sciences)

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course Biomedical Sciences is very interesting as well as challenging, it covers various fields of sciences and has great scope in terms of research. The course connects theory with real world applications in hospitals and research laboratories. A few examples would include, antibacterial testing, PFT, EMG, blood tests, which are commonly performed in hospitals. The course also helps us to pursue our hands in research further by providing us with hands on training for skills such as biostatistics, writing scientific literature, lab skills, etc. A few improvements that I would suggest is the removal of outdated testing methods and practicals from the curriculum that are not essential for the real world currently. The teaching methods are quite good and interesting. The exams are conducted at the end of each semester and are relevant to the curriculum. The practical exams test your knowledge of hands on experience that you've gained while doing lab work. Theory exams are of 3 hours as per usual and test your theoretical knowledge from books and classes mainly.

The highest package of my college is 36 lakh per annum from bcom H programme. The placement is very nice from my collegem the average package is 6.7 lakh per annum and the median package is around 8 lakh per annum which is very good in my views. But if the students is not focusing in his academic then no college can give him placement, it's just a exception. The students become elegible for placements after 2nd year and before 3rd year basically they just got PPO that is preplacement offer. Bain & co. , de shaw , Accenture , oyo, Swiggy.
