Remarks

Well, there are many engineering colleges in Mumbai, where you get admission by Centralised admission process (Cap) and the entrance exam is MH-CET or Jee main. I chose this college because it was my first preference as there was Hindi minority quota and my name appeared in the second merit list. My Cet percentile was 89 and I got admission in the computer branch. Also, this college is the closest college from my home. The infrastructure of the college is fabulous. Admission is not only through Cap, but there are also some institute seats reserved where offline admissions are carried. All the 6 main branches of Engineering are available in Thakur College of Engineering and Technology (Tcet). You have to get at least 96 percentile for admission in computer engineering branch in MH-CET if you belong to general and open category.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

As TCet is now autonomous the course offered is CBCGS-H where 'H' stands for "holistic development" for all branches. My course Is B. E computer engineering. Faculty for each subject are available in large numbers. You will find 1 subject is taught by 4-5 faculty members which makes the faculty-student ratio about 1:30. All the faculty members are at least M.E and some are PhD and many of them are pursuing PhD. Although teaching quality is somewhat below average, most of the things are for your "self-study". Exams are timely conducted and results are generated very fast unlike other colleges which take a long long time. After becoming autonomous college exams are easy and if you work little hard you will end up getting 10 pointer.

Internships Opportunities

2.5

Inhouse internship and outhouse both are available. Inhouse is carried in summer and compulsory. You will not get a stipend for in-house internships. Credits are offered for internships so the internship will add up credits in your results. Honestly, an in-house internship is a waste as there is no learning because it is carried for only 10 days. Projects from the internships are expected. So opt for outhouse internship if you definitely want to learn something. Internships should be done because the companies do look at an internship during the placement process.

Placement Experience

3.5

There is a TnP cell i.e training and placement that works only for the placement process of students. Placement percentage of Computer and IT are good but if you are in a mechanical or civil branch in TCET then you might up end up without being placed in any company after BE. Generally, the placement process starts from the end of the third year that is the 6th semester. Talking about the 2020 year maximum salary offered was 30 lac, the minimum was 3 lac and the average was 4-4.5 lac per annum. 170+ students are placed till date for 2020 and the placement process was not over so the numbers might increase. Companies like Infosys, Capgemini, Accenture, TCS and many such service-based companies visit for placements. For year 2019 a total number of 55 companies visited for placement and 450+ students were placed in 2019.

Fees and Financial Aid

Well, engineering colleges are known for their high fees and Tcet is also known for his high fees. The fee for FE is about 1.46 lac for all branches and there is a 5 - 10% hike in fees every year. However, there are some scholarships which can reduce the fees to some amount like TFWS and EBC. TFWS should be applied well before when you fill the form of MH CET and only 4-5 students with best score get the scholarship. The other one is EBC which is applicable when your family income is below 8 lac per annum. Ebc waives of the 50% of the tuition fees which makes the fees around 80k. Placement percentage of the college is good for branches like Computer, IT. Although most of the students opt for the higher studies like Masters in abroad.

Campus Life

4

Talking about the campus, Tcet has one of the best campuses in Mumbai. The annual fest Zephyr is held in the month of November or December. Many different colleges students participate in the annual fest of tcet. There are many numbers of clubs /committees in tcet that are run by students who are only running for taking money from students. They take money and disappear so avoid being part of the committees. Social life overall is good at the campus. The library is good and books are available for you that you want. Tcet also conducts Multicon that is multiconference where you can show the research papers and publish your journals. Classrooms are good and all are air-conditioned. Sports and extracurricular activities are also carried out.

If one wants direct placements in comapnies such as Wipro, Cognizant, Hexaware, TCS and many more, SIT is the place. Highest is still unbeatable as one student in 2023 got a paycheck of 50 lakhs per annum from SIT. Even the average is over 10 lakhs now as most students are placed through SIT placements cell.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum is also good and it is explained in detail on the college's website and there are labs for the courses which made learning fast and easy. Relevance(industry alignment)->8/10 The curriculum is designed to keep up with the industry needs especially in fast growing fields like computer science, management, design and pharmacy. Updated course such as AI, machine learning, cybersecurity, data science and 3D printing are included for tech students. Industry exposure depends on the students initiative it's not equally strong in every department. Comprehensiveness-> 7.5/10 First year courses focus on building strong basics in science, mathematics and communication skills. Later semesters introduce specialisation, electives, research projectsand soft skill training. The curriculum also includes personality development, entrepreneurship and innovation modules. A few departments could integrate new technologies fatser into the syllabus. Practical v/s theoretical balance: Labs, workshops and real world projects are a core part of the structure, especially in engineering, design, and science programs. CIA like case studies, presentations, and assignments encourage hands on learning. However, in some programs, there is a still heavier focus on the theory, so students must actively seek extra learning resources
