Remarks

There are very few good colleges in India for psychology and Jamia Millia Islamia is one of the best colleges in India for that. The faculty of the college is very nice and helpful. The student crowd is also very good. People from different ethnicity come to Jamia Millia Islamia to pursue their education. This includes both national and international students. This is one of the best things about the college that there is diversity in the college which helps in learning new things about different cultures. This and the high quality of education was the reason I chose this college. I found out about this college via collegedunia.com.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose the course of psychology because in future I wanted to become a psychologist which is a booming field in India and Jamia Millia is a college which provides the courses in psychology. The faculty is very knowledgeable and nice. They are always ready to help. The teachers are well qualified and most of them are PhD holders so they have a good grasp of the field. The faculty and student ratio is a bit low. Sometimes they're used to be guest teachers for specific subjects but that wasn't a big issue. There were 2 sessionals in every term and in the term-end a final exam. The difficulty level of the exams was always between moderate to high.

Placement Experience

1.5

In the last semester of graduation, there used to be placements for the courses. The placements were not really good for every course but only for the selective ones. The placement opportunities for psychology department are not really good and there were very few institutions who used to come for hiring students. Especially for the bachelors, it's not up to the mark as compared to other universities. The few companies that used to come for hiring offered packages from 3-4 lakhs max. My plan after getting a degree was to pursue my masters because without it a bachelors in psychology is of no use in india. There are very few opportunities.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees structure of jamia millia islamia is also one of the best things about the college. Since jamia millia islamia is a central affiliated University, the fees is very low and affordable. The fee hike depends on the funds allocated by the central govt. There is no fee hike in recent times and the college is very affordable to everyone. There are scholarships for various quota for students and it can be availed by people through the accounts department. Not everyone is eligible for the scholarships. I didn't get any job from the campus because in psychology, a masters degree is really important to get jobs. A bachelors degree is not enough to practice psychology as a subject.

Campus Life

4.5

The life at the campus is really great as there are people from different cultures studying in the university. There used to be annual fest called 'Miras' and one other called 'Taalimi mela' or educational fest which happens every year for 3 days on the foundation day of Jamia Millia Islamia. Other than this, there used to be individual fests of every department. The sports facility at the university is also great. There used to be tournaments for students who were interested in sports and the college even encouraged the students who were good at it. Other than this there were many social clubs in the university like the debating club, art club, acting club, etc. Which students could join by giving trials.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

As a future law student philosophy was one of the options which was good to opt. Secondly, comparatively less people opt it and it can be one of the better choices if you are preparing for upsc and taking it as an optional. Teaching can be made more interactive as the topics are really interesting

Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
