Remarks
I opted for Gauhati Commerce College because it is known to be the best college in Northeast India for commerce education. It also has a convenient location which makes the transportation facility easily accessible to the students living in any part of the city.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course syllabus that our college follows is given by Gauhati University which is to a great extent outdated but the CBCS system that the university has started following since last year is quite updated and it will be beneficial for the students to acquire the right kind of knowledge which the current market scenerio demands. In our college major focus is given on theoretical knowledge which deprives us from getting exposure to the practical skills that the industry requires. However, our teaching faculty is very much dedicated towards shaping a good future for us, especially the junior teachers, who put all their efforts in helping us in the best way possible.
Internships Opportunities
I have completed an internship program with Unschool in the Sales and Marketing domain firstly as an Unschool Community Influencer and then as an Unschool Community Leader where I was given a stipend of 5% on the total sales amount. I managed to get into this internship through LinkedIn.
Placement Experience
The placement and job opportunities in our college is very poor. Companies like Godrej, Yes Bank, TCS, Jio etc. do visit for campus placement but very few students manage to get placed. Also the package offered is very low which ranges from 10,000-20,000 per month and that too outside the candidate's home state.
College Events
Our college oraganises Annual College Week which is a continuous 6-7 days program. Many events are held during the annual college week such as cultural events, writing events, sports events, debates, quizzes, extempore, group discussion, mock parliament, events related to social service activities, selling competition, cooking contests etc. On the last day of our annual college week we have the prize distribution ceremony followed by the cultural night in which some eminent people of the Assamese music industry perform.
Campus Life
The infrastructure of our college is really good. The college has been constructing many large- sized classrooms since the last two years. Some classrooms have air-conditioners and digital boards as well. We also have conference and seminar halls. We have an auditorium with a seating capacity of 600 people. We have a well-equipment library with all kinds of books, photocopy machines, proper desks and chairs, e- resource facility giving access to all kinds of periodicals and journals etc. We have washrooms in all the floors of the college building. We have drinking water facility all around our college campus. We also have a huge playground in which many sports events are held during our annual college week.
