Course Curriculum Overview
I feel the course is very rich and varied for someone from commerce background . There are a lot of subjects for students which students study in various semesters . There's even EVS in the curriculum which is wierd but also great . I feel the curriculum is a lot based on the real life there are topics related to computerised accounting, e businesses , virtual reality , augmented reality , stock markets etc etc . which are ig very necessary for today's world . Since I am just in my 1st semester I don't think I can say a lot about the improvements that can be made but I feel the curriculum can also include a little about AI as it's the burning topic of today's world . If there's a subject like EVS for commerce then I feel even an AI subject will not pose much difficulty or chaos among the students . Exams are very regular . I just had my sessional exams in October and now I am preparing for my finals which are in December
Internships Opportunities
Internships offers are mostly provided through whatsapp groups . Students of different major courses do internships accordingly to their major subject like accounts major students mostly work under CAs . Students have to prepare a report of their internships as to what did they do , what did they learn etc etc and then they need to present their internship reports in the class . I don't know exactly in which sem this needs to be done but probably this is done in the 3rd or 5th sem . I haven't done any internship yet since I am just in 1st sem but I am looking forward to working under a CA since I will also change my major course from HRM to accountancy
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees are semester wise which is around 7000 so for the whole year you need to pay nearly 15000 . As I had ration card so I got the free admission benefit . I haven't got much idea about fees of other courses but I do know that the fees of bba and bca are more than 20000 per semester . Students do get financial aid if the provide either their income certificate or ration card of their parents
Campus Life
There are a lot of fests and events happening in the college like quasofiesta , MUNs , Unmilan(annual college week) , general freshers, department freshers , student union freshers etc . All of these are held throughout the year which makes every month enjoyable . There's a wide range and accessibility of books in the library . there are digital classrooms inside the classrooms + there are ACs . Students can play sports like cricket , football in the ground , but since the ground is under renovation all of this has stopped for sometime . We even have a gym in our college , there are a lot of literary clubs in the college. I am a part of the quiz club of the college and have participated in many quizzes across guwahati and even have won a few. We have a very famous student run social group which is called "The Smile Makers" which helps people and also animals in various ways . We also have a group called "The Helping Hand"
Admission
I applied to a lot of other colleges but those were all backup for me if I didn't get admission here . I applied in dispur college , kc das commerce college , guwahati college etc . We are admitted to colleges here using the samarth website. There are two merit lists provided by each college in the samarth website. I wasn't selected in the 1st merit list in gcc which ofcourse scared me a bit , but I got my names in the other previously mentioned colleges but I wanted to wait for the second merit list for which I had to hear a lot like what if I didn't even get my name on the second list of gcc . But I was sure I would get because my percentage was just 0.4% short from the cut off of the last merit list . I wanted this college because of emotional attachments + gcc has one of the best merits among all the commerce colleges in the entire northeast . Even this year in the toppers list published by gauhati university, 9 out of 10 students were from Gcc itself
Faculty
I am not sure but I think that the student to teacher ratio might be 70:1 . The faculty is very approachable (except few) as I also mentioned earlier . One of the teacher I would like to mention is Kaberi ma'am from the accounts department. She is very very helping and kind . She is more like a mother figure to me whom I can approach at any time . Another faculty I would like to mention is Nipon Sir who is probably the most humourous person in the whole college . He's humour is unmatchable . Yes there are some faculties (2-3 of them) whom the students don't like because maybe they are very strict but according to me I feel if we behave and listen according to what they say they are good + I also feel they are very knowledgeable. There are around 2 exams per semester along with quizzes , group discussions , assignments, projects etc .
Night Life
We have a gym at our college which opens at around 4 pm and college cafeteria which opens maybe around 8or9 and I have no idea when it closes . The library has a huge space . There are a lot of hangout places in the college for every student . There's common rooms for both boys and girls separately . Students can even chill inside classrooms where classes are not going on during that period . Students also chill out near the parking lots (one in the backside area and the other near the cafeteria) . My personal favourite is a tree shade near the principal's building and mba building . Outside the college there are many hotels and restaurants, there's also zoo nearby , people also hangout to rajgarh often . The most famous spot to hangout outside to college for every gccian is ofc LCB (Lal Chana Bhandar) . I have not been around the college at night so I have no idea regarding that .
Other Applied Colleges
