Remarks
JU is the best university in West Bengal and currently holds the 5th rank among all universities in India. A student of JU benefits from low tuition fees as well. Also, JU has one of the best faculties for Economics in Kolkata
Course Curriculum Overview
Too much focus is given on theoretical concepts. Not much scope for field work that will provide students with hands on experience. Syllabus is structured in such a way that it basically helps students who will opt for higher studies. Below average students and students who wish to settle with common jobs are usually at a loss.
Placement Experience
60% students opt for on campus placement out of which all don't get placed. Thus only 40% of the students get placed. Many opt for PhD courses. The faculty is mostly interested about students who will go for a PhD Degree. So not much help is provided by the university in ensuring that all students get placed. Despite being a premiere institute JU remains relatively unknown to the rest of the country. Students looking for jobs have to work it out in their own
College Events
Cultural meets are held individually by the Department of Arts, Science and Engineering. Reputed artists have performed each year. Seminars and conferences are organised very often. Outsiders are also welcome. Final year graduation students in Economics department are required to organise a 3day conference named The Young Economists Students Meet.
Campus Life
There are computer labs, well equipped library and digital library. But hygiene and cleanliness are not taken into account. Washrooms are unclean and not usable. Wifi is not available. Most of the non teaching staffs are not cooperative enough.
