Remarks

It's a premium institute in India and very reputed in the field of Science and Technology. Being a science student, it was the best institute to get admitted. The teachers are very good and department has a lot of facilities to explore. Number of professors are quite large and they belong to versatile fields, so you'll get a lot scope to choose your field of studies during your master's or Doctorate.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course structure is well up to the mark. The syllabus structure was very nice and we'll divided in each semesters. It had a great deal of studying different fields as your special papers including a dissertation research scheme in the final semester. The department has more than 40 teachers in Physics and they belong to versatile fields. Hence you'll get a lot of options for your advanced studies or dissertation work. A lot of professors were really good in explaining things though some were not. Professors like Kalyan Chattopadhyay, Soumen Mondal, Argha Deb, Abhijit Mukherjee and so on were our sources of inspiration for studies. The library facilities are quite well. Two libraries were accessible for the students - departmental and Central Library. Both are enriched with huge number of books. The environment was really well, the seniors are quite helpful in a lot of ways.

Placement Experience

4

The job opportunities are quite high. Different institutions, MNCs are always there for Placement. Mostly the placements are found in academics and other related fields. Though a lot of students opt out from placement as they pursue Research or do Further studying. So all the students aren't participating in Placement programs.

College Events

5

It was really great. The sports events were really enjoying. The student feast of JU is very famous. You can even merchandise for every event occuring there. More than 40 musical bands, dancing groups etc takes part in our cultural events.Cultural activities are always a pert of life. From movie screening to Art programs, it's always present like a part of living.

Fees and Financial Aid

I haven't applied in any programs. But there are two kinds of major scholarships. One provided by the University Authorities and second provided by The Student Unions. They require income certificate and results. The scholarships are only given to the Poor students with merit. The selection for scholarship is done through interview by the mentioned authorities.

Campus Life

4.5

Sports facilities are quite well. You can participate in a lot of games like Football, Cricket, Badminton, Volleyball, American football, Basketball and so on. The complete campus has the facility of free WiFi for students. The libraries are quite large. The central Library has more lakhs of books in stock. The journal section is really enriched and the facilities of e-journal are really helpful. The departmental library is more profitable for postgraduate level courses. It is equipped with specialization books. The librarians are very good. The laboratories are well equipped with different instruments. Special laboratories are there for specific researchers, special paper students. Students have free access to computer laboratories. There are computers present in each laboratory and library with dedicated computer labs for subject teaching. The university have transportation services inside the campus for specially-abled students. A lot of scholarship programs are running there from the authorities and student unions.Cheap store, Medicine store, Photocopy shop, stationary shops, 6 canteens for provides sufficient service for the students. There are Sanitary napkins vending machines in each building.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Hostel infrastructure is quite cheap and good. Hostel rooms are clean and have sufficient service as per requirements. Though I never opted for a hostel but some of my friends were there and they were happy.

Placement Experience:

Number of students who have been placed is far less than what it should be ideally. Kolkata is a paradise for law practice as it is the largest city of India and lawyers have always been in demand here. Still only 30% of the students are placed here and that's a big issue considering the name of our college.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is obviously outdated and the knowledge we get through it, is bookish and does not apply to present industry methods. This way we are given no exposure to the real life industry knowledge. The exams are held on semester basis after every 6 months and are easy and manageable.
