Remarks
If you are capable of securing either of Thadomal, Sardar Patel, VJTI, ICT, KJ Somaiya or DJ Sanghvi, go for it, else VESIT is your best option. The college is better than most other colleges in Mumbai. Travelling is convenient too.
Entrance Preview
Secured admission through CET, scored 112/200. Got admission through the third CAP round. Opted for Vivekanand mainly for it's reputation and it was only. The only college in the top bracket in Mumbai which I could get into for EXTC.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is pretty rigorous. There are too many useless assignments in the curriculum, more so if you fail to satisfy the attendance criteria (75%).
Internships Opportunities
The college has a separate entrepreneurship cell called TVEC that offers internships to students. The general stipend that one may get is around 5000 for a month of internship.
Placement Experience
Placements are better than most colleges with Accenture being the main recruiter. The average salary offered by Accenture this year was around 2.8L. Companies like TechMahindra, L&T, Nomura also visit the campus but are more choosy in selections. Nomura offered packages of around 7L while L&T offered around 4.5L which included a bond. L&T also offered higher packages but the bond was 3 years. The overall eligibility criteria was 6.5+ pointer (Around 60-65% marks). Of the eligible students, more than 80% were placed.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees are 1, 09, 442. Considering the location, infrastructure and facilities, the fees are quite reasonable. The labs are well equipped and have air conditioning. The classrooms are spacious too.
Fees and Financial Aid
Tata institute offers scholarships to the toppers each year. The fees are covered in the loan. Average cut off for the loan is around 9.3 pointer and around 15 students per batch get this scholarship.
Campus Life
The crowd in VESIT is pretty diverse. The campus though has no places around to chill. Near by places are around 3km away. Extracurricular activities are better than most colleges in Mumbai. Labs are well maintained and well equipped. Robotics are a part of PRAXIS and debate competitions are held throughout the year. The overall crowd is pretty enthusiastic about extra curricular activities.
Hostel Facilities
VESIT has its own hostel with twin sharing rooms. The fees for hostel are around 80, 000 per year. Mess is managed very well and there are no complaints abut the food. The hostel is available on a two year contract after which you have to find a PG or rent a flat with your friends. The average rent in the vicinity is around 20, 000.
Alumni/Alumna
There is an active Alumni network of the college where an annual Alumni event is conducted. The seniors are very helpful and no ragging cases are heard in recent history of college.
Exam Structure
Labs and submissions are stressful. A week is all you get to complete all the write ups of the labs conducted in the previous week. Exams are conducted in the form of 2 unit tests. Usually conducted over a week. Overall the labs and exams are pretty hectic.
