Remarks
I completed my undergraduation in Sociology from North Point college and the nearest University which offered a master's degree was NBU and it's reputation refarding sociology was good enough to make my decision.
Course Curriculum Overview
The faculty was not well balanced as we had an hod who i beleive was underqualified to be a college professor although the syllabus was properly covered and we were being engaged in other co curricular activities such as working and interning in NGO's such as Marg, Wat etc which gave us a good idea about our subject in reality.
Internships Opportunities
I interned for a Ngo named Marg which is based in Darjeeling and there was no stipend as such but our transportation and food cost was given to us, that too very limited.
Placement Experience
Our department had no such placement and job opportunities and most students opted for net to become lectures in the near future which is a very big downfall of our course as even after completing the course most of our seniors are unemployed and are now preparing for Government services and NET.
College Events
The campus Life is good enough as i lived in the University hostel but the drawback was that the student council was full of goons who indirectly ran the college and there were no such big events which took place as the university didn't fund the committee's properly and even if they did, the student council goons would take away the money and use it for their purpose.
Campus Life
The campus of NBU is probably one of the biggest campuses a university has in India as the campus is in Matigara which has lot of greenery. There is a playground where students play games and sports. I don't know much about labs as i wasn't science students and didn't visit any lab but our department building was very old and the infrastructure was not appealing at all which made me think twice before joining the University, otherwise everything infrastructure wise is top notch.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel was a room one and four people had to share a room, the rents were very low as NBU is a government funded University and the availability of hostel is good as most students opt for rents or pgs.
