Entrance Preview
This college was the only option after Class X. I did not want to go through Class XI & XII and then go for engineering. This is why I appeared NERIST Entrance Examination (NEE-1) after class X and went to this college for a 6 years course in Engineering.
Course Curriculum Overview
It is very focused. The entire curriculum is divided into 3 modules of 2 years each, hence making up to 6 years course. In the Base module, they teach foundation physics, chemistry, mathematics and English, and a couple of stream oriented subjects. From Diploma module onward, the course is focused on the core subjects of engineering.
Internships Opportunities
We did not have any such internship. However, we went out for industrial training on our own and no stipend was paid to us. However, now a days the situation may be different.
Placement Experience
Placement these days have increased, as I heard. Many companies including MNCs are going there for campus recruitment. People are getting placed in the 5th year itself and they join after completing the 6 years.
College Events
The college is very much involved in extra curricular activities. They have technical festivals, 4 day long annual functions involving art & culture, inter hostel cricket, volleyball and other sports tournaments etc. Along with study, a lot of involvement is there in arts, sports and other activities, such as NCC & NSS. The last two are part of the credits that need to be earned.
Fee Structure And Facilities
It was a government run institute when I studied and now it has been promoted to a deemed university. fee structure is quite feasible and very low as compared to other engineering college. I did not spend the amount that I paid for MBA, in 6 years combined in NERIST. Very nominal, I would say.
Fees and Financial Aid
I am not sure if they have any scholarship as such but things might have changed a little by now. The Training & Placement cell might be able to help you with that information.
Campus Life
This is something where the college excels. As mentioned earlier as well, different activities and extracurricular functions are organized at different times throughout the year, which includes sports, debates, cultural functions, freshers nights, farewell parties, scientific festivals and competitions and what not. We enjoyed all these thoroughly.
Hostel Facilities
Mess food, in any institution I guess, would be always looked down upon. Ours was no different. We never liked the mess food and used to cook ourselves in the hostels. Hostels were also nice place to stay. Not very high end facilities, but enough to spend 6 wonderful years of life. The college is located in a valley, along with a river and is surrounded by hills all around it. Awesome place! I still miss it.
Alumni/Alumna
Every batch has their own groups and are connected to the college Alumni association and the T&P cell. However, the college is situated in one corner of the country and it becomes tough for the alumni staying in different states and countries outside India to be present physically during meets. However, in today's age, we are connected virtually to each other - based on hostel blocks, study batches, engineering stream etc
Exam Structure
Exams and labs were tough, because the syllabus used to be vast and the scrutiny used to be very strict as well. The foundation courses are really much tougher than the branch (engineering stream) subjects.
Faculty
Faculty is high class. The minimum qualification was M.Tech when I was studying and I guess now it has been further raised. The residential faculty love the students and teach them as their own wards.
