Remarks
I believe the college needs more interactions between the students themselves and more awareness about events. A primary issue is lack of communication. More information about external events will be helpful. However my department teachers have been really friendly and it's easy to interact with the. The college needs better communication so that it can grow as a community.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum and exam structure is based upon that of MAKAUT University. Most of the colleges in West Bengal will have the same structure. In my opinion the course needs a little renovations and is usually not research driven. Grooming for industry specific knowledge was provided after the 3rd year of college. In our year, it helped many students secure on campus jobs. And yes, there were industrial visits organized for the students.
Placement Experience
Placement of the college has possibly improved since the 2019. There has been around 65-70% placements (approximately). Internships were offered through the college but they were few in number. The popular companies for placement drive are CTS, Infosys, Capgemini, EY, etc. General step in recruitment drive of companies- aptitude test, optional programming test, technical interview and then HR interview. The institute provivded classes for aptitude tests and arranged mock interviews for experience.
College Events
Events- a techfest called techstorm, a language fest and a cultural fest ( once in two years) are organised. The cultural fest is the largest and attracts a huge number of people. Tech fests bring in participation from other nearby technical institutes. The average footfall of the events is unknown to me. Additionally it celebrates Biswakarma puja, Swaraswati Puja.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fees are around 40, 000 -43, 000per semester for 8 semesters. Modes of payment involved are Demand Draft and NEFT. Additional fees for securing admission are the caution deposit, the fees for uniform, library and certain other extra facilities. This is paid one time at the beginning. Then there are the lab manual fees per semester. The fees are similar for all engineering colleges in this area. However it may not be very feasible.
Fees and Financial Aid
I had not opted for any scholarships or educational loans. Thus I'm unaware about any such procedures. There is a TWF program which reduces the fees of students from an economically weaker section. I'm unsure about any other scholarship.
Campus Life
The campus is incredibly small and thus we had almost no campus life. There is a small girls common room or dorm and q boys common room. Even the access to these are limited and one can use them only at particular hours. Extracurriculars involved coding competitions, hackathons, seminars, debates, etc. There is a growing drama group in the institute. However one needs to stay properly connected in order to be informed about these events. The computer labs are good and have been recently upgraded. The male to female ratio is skewed. The number of male students is a lot higher than female. It can be 1:4. As per religion, the majority follow Hinduism and a smaller section, Islamic. I'm unsure about any other religions. Most students are from West Bengal. Some are from UP, Bihar. People usually mingle very well and are tolerant towards diversities. The students of the institute have no political unions. People may have their individual opinion on this matter but nothing happened ina group.
Alumni/Alumna
I never interacted with the alumni. There are however few alumnis still connected to the institute. The drama group is possibly the most connected in this matter. Alumnis have not affected my experience in any way. It may be different for a select few other students.
Admission
Admission can be done in one of two methods, through JEE mains rank or through WBJEE rank. I entered through JEE mains. The admission procedure involves a councelling procedure. There colleges are assigned to us based on our rank and our preference. Once we are assigned a college we get to confirm our selection. Then after that the college contacts us. In BP Poddar we are asked to visit their Park Street office. Then fill the forms and pay the fees. This process is done nearly around the month of June. I opted for this course because of my interest in computer science. I chose this institute because of its location and because it had an acceptable placement record.
Faculty
In my department, we had around 20 lecturers ( approximated number). The teachers were friendly and the average age would be 35-40. Most of them have an Mtech and some a hold PhD. As per the expertise, it varies from teacher to teacher. Some are skilled in explaining subjects while some others donot have the capacity to do so. Few lecturers hold industry experience and certifications.
