Remarks
Hansraj is a place which transforms a student who came in as a kid into an adult. This place prepares one to survive in the real world as one as to chose his own profession without any disturbance. This place provides immense oppurtunity to everyone. The college management has gotten better over time in matters such as issuing admit cards etc. The management is supportive of students.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum was really in-depth. All subjects were really focused on providing a lot of knowledge to apply them well in a practical work set up. For example, accounting involved management accounting, cost accounting, etc. which are all very important in an industrial set up. Attendance was not strict so a lot of students don't frequently attend classes because they were usually involved in other extracurricular activities, I was surely one of them. The exam structure was pretty basic, it consisted of 25 marks awarded for internal assessments and 75 marks for the final semester exams. Grades were awarded for different subjects and they were then used to calculate the SGPA.
Placement Experience
The placements at our College is really good. Nearly 150 companies came to Hansraj for their placement drives. Some of the top companies amongst them were Bain, Deshaw, Boston Consulting, etc. Very few companies come in for course-specific placement drives, the placements are generally open for all courses together. Companies generally have CV shortlisting, after that, they have their pre-placement talk where they explain about their company and what is that they do, followed by an aptitude test. Students who clear the aptitude test go for the next round which is usually a round of group discussion. The shortlisted students then advance to the personal interview rounds. The college does not provide any training, students themselves prepare for placements. The college has an Internship Cell where students can intern in a company that they desire.
College Events
There are a lot of societies in our college, each society is completely different on its own. There are unique societies for dance, music, fine arts, debating, finance, human resources, entrepreneurship, etc. All these societies organize different events throughout the year, inviting students from different colleges and even different universities. Students themselves raise sponsorship to organize these events. Hansraj has one annual fest named Confluence, it is organized by students themselves, it is usually a three day long fest, where huge Bollywood celebrities come and entertain the crowd.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure is really simple and the fee is extremely cheap for a college that provides so much value. The fee is cheap because the University of Delhi is financially aided. The College accepts either online payment or payment in bank through a challan.
Fees and Financial Aid
I did not opt for any scholorship, because I was never really keen on it. However I do remember some students were eligible to have some scholorship under the reservation system.
Campus Life
Gender ratios seemed even to me but this is just my opinion. The diversity is really great in our college. Students from all parts of India study here. We have a huge sports ground, a basketball court,a football ground, a shuttle court, ping pong tables, etc. students are highly engaged in sports each day.
Hostel Facilities
I opted for the Hostel during my first year. The hostel rooms were really small shared by two people for each room. The bathrooms were common. The hostel included three meals a day. There were a common lawn and a common room. PG's were really expensive, some of PG's charged students as high as 25000 per month. However, PG's were available to students at around 8000 per month but the quality was definitely not up the mark. PG's included food. Individual rooms were available, the rentals varied from 5000 to 20000 per student.
Alumni/Alumna
College seniors are the roots of our college experience. They are extremely helpful, they guide us properly in joining various societies which is more likely to provide value. They guide us to do things that are essential to have a better chance of getting placed. Our seniors a.k.a alumni work in start-ups, MNC's, etc. Some pursue professional courses such as CA, CFA, etc. Some also study business further in colleges such as IIM-A, IIM-B, FMS, etc.
Admission
I wanted to learn about business and accounting at a much deeper level, that is why I chose to pursue B.Com(Hons). Factors involved for me to chose Hansraj : After my 12th standard exams, I wanted to move out of Chennai, so I started exploring options and I stumbled upon Delhi University. Getting admission in Delhi University requires higher scores in Board examinations. Thankfully I had good marks to chose to study in DU. At first, I wanted to go to Shri Ram College Of Commerce as it is the best college for B.Com(Hons) in the whole nation but I didn't have the necessary marks. Fortunately, I had enough marks to get into Hansraj College which was among the top 5 colleges for commerce in India at that time. Admission Process: There are a lot of Colleges under the University of Delhi, of them was Hansraj College. Before a month, we had to register at the University of Delhi website and upload necessary files and create our own student portal. Delhi University releases Cut-Offs i.e. minimum percentage/grade necessary to get enrolled in a college. Different Colleges have different cut-offs. Delhi University released the first cut-off list, I did not have the required marks to apply for Hansraj so I had to wait for the next cut-off. Delhi University released the second cut-off list, I had the required marks to apply for Hansraj. We had a three day application period before the cut-off gets expired. I went to the College, Submitted the necessary documents, got them verified, it was a one day process. After a few days, I got access to pay the fees in my portal which meant that I was successfully enrolled.
Faculty
On an average we had 4-5 subjects each semester. Each subject consisted of 5 lectures per week. The tentative lectures would be around 240 per semester. The Faculty are well experienced most of them are educated in top Colleges across the Country. Their ages vary a lot, some are as young as 28 while some are 45. The faculty are really supportive, they have really interactive classes with students sharing immense knowledge in a really effective way.
