One of the best in India

IPGME&R is undoubtedly one of the best Medical Colleges in India. The college has a rich heritage. And the college hospital, SSKM Hospital is a multi speciality hospital which handles a humongous daily patient load. The college provides great exposure to it's students to build them up into competent professionals.

The exams are conducted as per MCI. The curriculum is also as per MCI. The final examination is conducted by the West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS). From 2019 onward, there are three internal examinations and one final professional examination.

The MBBS course includes a 1-year internship period at the end of 4 years. The college posts students in different Rural and Urban Health centres, several departments in SSKM Hospital including Trauma Care.

Scholarship exams are conducted from 2nd year onwards. The college provides ample opportunity to the students to avail financial help. This applies to UG, PG as well as nursing students. There is no loan facility that I'm aware of.

The alumni network is well established. College seniors and interns are friendly towards junior and there is a good junior-senior rapport. For both academic and non academic purposes, seniors and alumni are approachable for consultation.

Admission is based on NEET score and AIR in NEET. There is a 15% AI quota and 85% state quota. Usually a state rank between 10,000 and 13,000 is sufficient for the general category. But AIR requirements are relatively higher. There is 15% ST and 15% ST quota. There are also reservations for EWS and PH candidates.

The faculty is excellent. All the departments have distinguished professors. Very student friendly conduct of the faculty including the teachers and the group D staff. The staff is very cordial towards birth students and patients. The students get a good exposure to a hospital set up.
