I alsways wanted to go into physics, because physicists like Feynman and Chandrasekar were my heroes. I also found Quantum mechanics and Reativity fascinating.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum was great, from builiding basics of electro magnetic theory to classical mechanics. We arrived at Relativistic physics in the final year, armed with mathematical tools.
Internships Opportunities
There were some companies that came looking for research or technical associate work in metallurgy and offered about 5000 rs per month on two month basis.
Placement Experience
A metallurgy company from Okhla that made aluminum fabrications wanted some consulancy work done, and as we were novices, offered us training at 3.5 k per month.
College Events
The college cultural festivals were celebrated with pomp and show. Usually, studies were hampered during election season in November. Practical classes though were never hampered. There were also essay competitions on specific subjects like Gravity and Time, and i won prizes in those occasions.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The DU fee structure is one of the most economical compared with other universities in India and abroad. We paid around 2000 rs a year - and that too was refunded sometimes if we were selected under "merit cum means" scholarships. The final year fee was about 3000 rs per year and that is unbelievable low even in 1993.
Hostel Facilities
The PG experience was economical and good - we would supplement our low quality hostel food with home brought spices, laddoos, and other snacks, drinks like Bournvita etc. There were some liquour parties too, but they kept to themselves and bothered no one.
Faculty
Some of the faculty members like for mathematical physics were astonishingly good and explained things in depth and humilty. Others were only normal - it was just a job for them.
