Entrance Preview

There was a written entrance test based based on contemporary issues, both objective and subjective in nature. The next step was personal interview by an interview panel. There has been two very good colleges in India to pursue Masters in social work one of which is Department of Social work, Delhi university.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

Course curriculum is roughly divided into two parts with different subjects in combination in the four semester of two-year course. There are core subjects on social work discipline like social case work, social group work, community work, social welfare administration, social action, social research paper. Apart from there are two electives each in two semesters in 2nd year. It extends the opportunity to study subjects like mental health, public health, children and family, organizational behavior, disability, urban community development etc. Apart from the above mentioned range of subjects. There has subjects from different disciplines like sociology, psychology, social justice, political science ,human rights, social development and social policy to let the students get a comprehensive and deep knowledge of all the contemporary concerns in a theoretical frameworkThere is other aspect of course curriculum I.e. Field work practice where the students are engaged in concurrent field work for 2 years, each in different work setting which usually ranges from health setting, mental health setting, education sector, communities, agencies, NGOs etc to govt. Bodies like NCW etc.

Internships Opportunities

Usually the students gets involved with agencies, NGOs, other govt offices for internship along with CSR companies in corporate sector. Not all the internships are paid and it depends on the companies or the agency's internal policy whether a stipend is offered on not. The experience of internship are very enriching and insightful in nature due to engagement of the student in both field setting and in documentation work. There is a compulsory internship which a student is required to do after the completion of first year with minimun of 30 days of field work. Apart from that the student can get engage in other holidays also. There is one rural camp organized by the college for exposure for the students during 2nd year.

Placement Experience

3.5

Last year I.e. in 2015 there has been around 90-95% of campus placement. The CSR companies like ONGC, GAIL, Tata has been coming to the college for placement for past few year. They offered an initial offer of 4.5 lakhs per annum in the training period. Consultancy companies like KPMG also came which took one student for placement and two for paid internship (30 thousand for 2 months)in the gurgaon branch. The placement was offered on 6.5 lakh per annum. Apart from these companies organizations like Aajeevika, pradaan which work in rural development came for the campus selection and took around 15-20 students on package of around 4-5 lakh per annum. In the current batch the palcements have already started and microfinance company MHFC, PSUs like TPDDL, Consultancy company like Sri ram companies has already come. And the package offered by them lies from 4-6 lakh per annum.

College Events

3

There are seminars on various social issues which is held in the college. Annual function is a cultural event that is celebrated in our college. Apart from that alumni meet is also organized in the college. There are big seminars which involve a lot of programme and people from outside like Usha ramanthan, Nikhil Dey, Aruna roy has come. And emimnet historians, economist, sociologist from delhi univeristy as well as other academic institutions have also come.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is feasible. It is around 14000 rupees per year for Masters student with absolutely no extra charges. The low fee structure is due to tej college being under Delhi university which is a central university funded by central government.

Fees and Financial Aid

No, don't have much knowledge about it. Although there are scholarship offered for one students who is financially weak but I have no further details about it.

Campus Life

3

Gender ratio is usually women surpassing men in numbers with an exception in the current batch. There are hostel parties on the occasion of farewell, freshers, hostel nights, other festivals like lohri, Diwali, holi, eid etc. The hostle is like a closed knit family and the same goes for the department. There are students from almost every corner of the country form J&K to Andhra Pradesh etc. It is a hraggingvfreexine. The department gives the studnets the environment which is free of any discrimaination based on religion, race, ethnicity etc. There is only one thing where the college lacks a little when compared to other school for social work in India that is Infrastructure and apart from that the college has proved itself efficient and has also been in the rank 2nd inthe country in Masters in social work

Hostel Facilities

3.5

For hostle accommodation it is some 17000 rupees out of which 3000 is refundable and mess fee every month which is around 2500-3000 every month. The rooms are on twin basis and is based on merit in ten entrance examination in case the demand is less than

I have always held that the training I recieved during my masters programme prepared the grounds for my future development. The teaching pedagogy was centres around participation and a two way dialogue. I am not in the capacity to be suggesting improvements in curriculum as my stint in the university was almost perfect- more than I could have ever asked for.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is well designed by the renowned professors and faculty members from different universities in India and from abroad as well. The content was choosen keeping in mind to cover all the aspects of the specific subject for a pg student. As I mentioned before, the quality of study material was very good and helpful and very enough. But the pg thesis is missing from our course, due to which we were not able to do a research project. It appears to me after the completion of my first year that we can do our research under our given faculty but it wasn't mentioned in the course structure as it is mainly upto our faculties.

For the course i must say that this is something everyone needs to study about even if it's for just a part. We have ethics, moral, cultural relativism and etc. In our syllabus and it all really help to make our thinking rational, to see World from that point of view from where one can see the clarity. It's really necessary for improvement in personality and making good decision. I think there's need for making this course more practical like teaching, we can teach students about essentials of philosophy for there betterment of decision making from an early age.
