There certainly are many differences between IIM Ahmedabad and IIT Bombay. IIT Bombay promotes freedom whereas IIM Ahmedabad teaches you accountability. IIT Bombay gives you the ability to dream whereas IIM Ahmedabad helps you change them. IITB is more generic in nature whereas IIMA focuses strictly on core concepts. Both carry equal importance in one’s life and one cannot be considered better than the other. They both are like two wheels of a vehicle indispensable to each other.

Here are the basic differences that you will notice between IIM Ahmedabad and IIT Bombay.

IIM Ahmedabad students are more hard-working in general.
On average, IIT B students are more intelligent.
IIM Ahmedabad offers better infrastructural facilities.
Toppers at IIM A are given more respect.
IIT B will give you more freedom while you will learn to be accountable at IIM A.

Irrespective of these differences, being a part of any of these two institutes is life-changing.

Having friends who studied from both IIT Bombay and then IIM Ahmedabad, I think I can answer this question. Without any beating about the bush, he addressed the question right away.

These are some points of the differences that he personally felt:

Academics: A topper was respected more at IIM Ahmedabad.
Administration: IIM A feels much like a company.
Work Ethic: You will find that people at IIM A works much harder on average than IIT Bombay.
Infrastructure: Despite IIT Bombay having a larger campus area of 550 acres, IIM A having just 102 acres campus area has better infrastructure and facilities overall to stay in.
Smartness: One of my friends thinks his peers at IIT B were smarter on average although the ones at IIM A are hard working.
Friendships: Friendships from IIT Bombay have been better than IIM A.
Relationships: It can be said that the relationships go out well at IIM A as compared to IIT B on average.
Peer Group: It is true that there is class competition in both of these institutes, but it feels like IITB is a family.
