There is no question at all if you are optimising for salary in the short term. On average, you would earn more at IIM Ahmedabad and Bangalore than at FMS. In the long run, it will be much more dependent on you and a little bit on the profile you want to work in. However, ceteris paribus and on average IIM Ahmedabad or IIM Bangalore will earn more or as much as an FMS grad. Choose A or B if you want to maximise your placement salary. Whether you should optimise for placement salary is a different question, and the answer depends on what you want to do with your life.

Q: Are placements at IIM Calcutta as good as that of IIM Ahmedabad?

I will mention the placement statistics of both and let you decide if IIM Calcutta has placements as good as that of IIM Ahmedabad. The two most important factors considered by recruiters during Placements at IIM ABC/FMS/XLRI are Brand of UG College - SRCC/Old IITs/BITS/CA High Academics - University RankHolders, City Toppers in Boards, or at least Department Rank Holders with 8.5+ in Engineering. MBA scores are of much importance during Final Placements but are Not available during summer placement. If you have passed the above criteria, you are most likely to land any job. Still, I have segregated the roles that require work experience and the roles that do not. Roles that require work experience Operations/Supply chain/product management. Any role will require work experience if your above 2 criteria are not up to the mark. Roles that do not require work experience Consulting Investment Banking PE/VC Marketing Corporate Finance roles So most of the jobs do not require work experience. Even if they do only non-engineering work experience is of value unless you want to go into Operations/Supply chain/product management.

Q: How is SPJIMR's placement report better than IIMs including IIM Calcutta and as good as IIM Ahmedabad (both Average and Median)?

Here are a few possible reasons why SPJIMR placements are better than or equally good as IIMs SPJIMR has a much smaller batch size in comparison to IIMs and thus the average rises. SPJIMR has a very rigorous selection process that filters the best students and the recruiters are well aware of this. SPJIMR enjoys a great location maximizing the exposure and opportunities rendered to the students. The students perform exceptionally well in the placement interviews and thus secure high packages. It's important to note that these reasons are just based on speculations and it cannot be exactly determined why some placements are better than others.

Q: How do I get a package of 30 lakhs in the field of marketing, post MBA from IIMA/B/C, FMS, MDI, SPJIMR, and IIFT?

While many may shed their philosophies on how getting a high package should not be your ultimate goal and stuff, I am here with a different opinion. When you are investing a huge amount of money it is only right to expect a greater monetary benefit and a better lifestyle. So I have mentioned some techniques that will help you land a package of 30 LPA specifically in the field of marketing post-MBA from IIM ABC, FMS, MDI, SPJIMR, and IIFT. The first thing you need to do is lower your expectations as no marketing placements offer a package higher than 25 LPA. These highest offers are made by top firms like Reckitt Benckiser, HUL, P&G, and Asian Paints. You need to figure out what you really are after, a good marketing role or a high-paying job. If you are after the latter I suggest you go for big consulting firms like Mc Kinsey, BCG, or investment banks that offer 30+ LPA. But if it is the marketing role you are after, then make sure your resume reflects your marketing enthusiasm. This will further increase your chances of selection. Performing well in the competitions conducted by your desired company is another way to get a high-paying job. If the Final Placements are your last resort then make sure you have a stable and excellent CGPA. Many companies consider this factor while shortlisting. These points will help you get your dream job but cannot necessarily guarantee it. It all ultimately depends on your efforts and obviously your luck.

Q: Is attending IIM-Ahmedabad worth rejecting a five-digit monthly salaried job in a tech company?

Continue working if you enjoy your job and see it developing your ambitions and you as a person. Make a plan to work for a few years, switch jobs/profiles a few times to gain more diverse experience, and then get an MBA from a more internationally renowned business school in the US/Europe. If you were able to get into IIM-A now, chances are you will be able to do so again while you are still young. Join IIM-Ahmedabad if you don't yet have clear life ambitions/roadmaps and don't see much value in your job beyond its salary value. As you get older, you will lose direction and enthusiasm in a soulless job. You will then be too old for IIMs but not competitive enough for schools in the United States or Europe, or even ISB or IIMA PGPX. So it's better to get that degree now rather than later.

The placement system in the IIMA starts from December.This includes a three to four days of placement date, includes more than 160 companies are visiting the campus. these companies includes MNCs such as American express,BlackRock, consulting group such as master Card, Indian company such as Aditya Birla group ,Tata group ,Mahindra group technology companies such as Amazon Zomato .In the last almost 460 offers are provided to the students in the placement process.Many years ago someone claim that in campus 100% placement occurs.The average package is around 20LPA and the maximum was 75LPA.

Placement Experience:

The placement season at IIMA starts from December onward. This includes a three to four day marathon placement season that witnesses more than 150 companies visiting the campus. IIMs offer 100% placement and the average package of IIM A is 31 lpa which is quite great. Highest packages come close to 1 crore. Every student gets the opportunity of a summer internship program in the 1st year and some are offered pre placement offers too. After the second year students get placed in huge companies with great packages and tend to have a lavish life. IIM A alumni network is very strong too and students get to be inspired by great leader like Ajay Banga who is currently the CEO of Mastercard and nominated to be World Bank CEO too.

Is it a better choice for choosing FMS Delhi over IIM A or IIM B when compared to placement salary?

There is no question at all if you are optimising for salary in the short term. On average, you would earn more at IIM Ahmedabad and Bangalore than at FMS. In the long run, it will be much more dependent on you and a little bit on the profile you want to work in. However, ceteris paribus and on average IIM Ahmedabad or IIM Bangalore will earn more or as much as an FMS grad. Choose A or B if you want to maximise your placement salary.

Whether you should optimise for placement salary is a different question, and the answer depends on what you want to do with your life.

Almost all students of both institutes IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta are placed so there isn’t much difference.
Moreover, the median packages are similar proving that the placement scenario is similar.

How are the placements for engineers with no work experience at the IIMs, FMS Delhi and XLRI?

The two most important factors considered by recruiters during Placements at IIM ABC/FMS/XLRI are

Brand of UG College - SRCC/Old IITs/BITS/CA

MBA scores are of much importance during Final Placements but are Not available during summer placement.

If you have passed the above criteria, you are most likely to land any job. Still, I have segregated the roles that require work experience and the roles that do not.

How much do the top B-schools like the IIMs FMS, MDI, XLRI, SP JAIN, JBIMS, IIFT, and NITIE inflate their placement reports?

In the placement process, it is not always the B-Schools that are responsible for reporting inflated packages, but rather the companies. The figure reported by placement cells is referred to as the "Cost to Company" (CTC) and not the take-home salary. This means that simply dividing the CTC by 12 is not an accurate reflection of what you will receive in your bank account each month.

CTC consists of two main components: fixed and variable. The fixed component includes your basic salary, HRA, TA, LTA, employer's contribution to the provident fund, joining bonus, retention bonuses, and ESOPs. The variable component is based on both your performance and the company's performance and is paid out in lump sums either yearly or half-yearly.

Your take-home salary at the end of each month is calculated as basic salary + HRA + TA + other allowances - provident fund deduction - tax. The remaining amount is given to you at the end of the year. To illustrate how companies may inflate their CTC figures, here are a few examples:

Amazon:

Fixed component: 9 lakhs

Year 1 end retention bonus: 2 lakhs

Year 2 end retention bonus: 1.5 lakhs

ESOP: 5 lakhs to be paid over 3 years

Performance bonus: separate/not reported CTC: 17.5 lakhs

Take-home salary: 65-70k

Goldman Sachs:

Fixed component + Variable component: 14.5 lakhs

Relocation: 2,00,000 INR (one-time payment)

Supplemental Salary: 3,50,000 INR (supplemental salary is an accrued bonus paid out in monthly installments pro-rated from the date of joining, only applicable during the first year of joining)

CTC: 20 lakhs

Take-home salary: 95-98k

RBS India Development Center (Royal Bank of Scotland back-end):

Fixed component: 9 lakhs

Variable component: 10-20% of a fixed component

CTC: 10.8 lakhs

Take-home salary: 65-68k

As seen from the examples, despite Amazon having a CTC that is double that of RBS IDC, their take-home salary is the same. This is the typical way it works. The placement teams likely do not have much control over the process.

How is SPJIMR's placement report better than IIMs including IIM Calcutta and as good as IIM Ahmedabad (both Average and Median)?

Here are a few possible reasons why SPJIMR placements are better than or equally good as IIMs

SPJIMR has a much smaller batch size in comparison to IIMs and thus the average rises.
SPJIMR has a very rigorous selection process that filters the best students and the recruiters are well aware of this.
SPJIMR enjoys a great location maximizing the exposure and opportunities rendered to the students.
The students perform exceptionally well in the placement interviews and thus secure high packages.

It's important to note that these reasons are just based on speculations and it cannot be exactly determined why some placements are better than others.

How do I get a package of 30 lakhs in the field of marketing, post MBA from IIMA/B/C, FMS, MDI, SPJIMR, and IIFT?

While many may shed their philosophies on how getting a high package should not be your ultimate goal and stuff, I am here with a different opinion. When you are investing a huge amount of money it is only right to expect a greater monetary benefit and a better lifestyle. So I have mentioned some techniques that will help you land a package of 30 LPA specifically in the field of marketing post-MBA from IIM ABC, FMS, MDI, SPJIMR, and IIFT.

The first thing you need to do is lower your expectations as no marketing placements offer a package higher than 25 LPA. These highest offers are made by top firms like Reckitt Benckiser, HUL, P&G, and Asian Paints.
You need to figure out what you really are after, a good marketing role or a high-paying job. If you are after the latter I suggest you go for big consulting firms like Mc Kinsey, BCG, or investment banks that offer 30+ LPA.
But if it is the marketing role you are after, then make sure your resume reflects your marketing enthusiasm. This will further increase your chances of selection.
Performing well in the competitions conducted by your desired company is another way to get a high-paying job.
If the Final Placements are your last resort then make sure you have a stable and excellent CGPA. Many companies consider this factor while shortlisting.

These points will help you get your dream job but cannot necessarily guarantee it. It all ultimately depends on your efforts and obviously your luck.

Is attending IIM-Ahmedabad worth rejecting a five-digit monthly salaried job in a tech company?

Continue working if you enjoy your job and see it developing your ambitions and you as a person. Make a plan to work for a few years, switch jobs/profiles a few times to gain more diverse experience, and then get an MBA from a more internationally renowned business school in the US/Europe. If you were able to get into IIM-A now, chances are you will be able to do so again while you are still young.

Join IIM-Ahmedabad if you don't yet have clear life ambitions/roadmaps and don't see much value in your job beyond its salary value. As you get older, you will lose direction and enthusiasm in a soulless job.

You will then be too old for IIMs but not competitive enough for schools in the United States or Europe, or even ISB or IIMA PGPX. So it's better to get that degree now rather than later.

PGP and PGP FABM are the flagship courses of IIM Ahmedabad which have an overall 100% placement percentage. Students of these courses secured placements across 30 different cohorts. There were 23 new companies which participated in the PGP placements. The major recruiters of PGP FABM are from various sectos like Agri inputs, Agri Tech, Consulting and FMCG.
