Dr. Vara Lakshmi Thavva, Professor of MBA department received her Doctorate in Master of Business Administration from Sri Venkateswara University for her research work on “Performance of Commercial Banks in lending to Priority Sectors”. She obtained an MBA (Finance) from Osmania University. She served in academics for more than 20 years in various Engineering Colleges like CBIT, SVIST, EPGC and 1 year in industry as a functional manager in Honey Soft Solutions limited. Her research interests are Micro Finance, Rural Banking, Priority Sector Lending practices. She has published 25 papers in international journals and attended 5 government-sponsored conferences. In her teaching career she has served in various roles during her career, including academics and administration. In addition to the managerial skills, she also has training skills to prepare the students for various competitive exams and German (Deutch) language trainer.

What is the latest program that you are offering in your institute/dept. which will help students outperform and stand apart from the crowd?

In the Master of Business Administration department we are offering five contemporary specializations including Finance, HRM, Marketing, Systems and Entrepreneurship.

The program helps the students and entrepreneurs to advance their knowledge in a business environment, finance, economy, management, operations, systems and marketing for professionals looking to improve their career by seeking employment in management positions.

The uniqueness of the program is to interact with the students with successful entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds through the specifically established centers like, Science and Technology Startup Part (STSP), Entrepreneurship center and Technology Innovation and Incubation Centre (TIIC).

What are some valuable insights of the program that you are offering at your institute/dept.?

The program is made up of international experiences as a part of international connections to the faculty and students to avail the facility of internship at foreign universities in more than nine countries. Getting enrolled in a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program is an excellent opportunity to enhance knowledge of the business world and gain management skills for a fulfilling career. Master of Business Administration is designed to make the students business-ready and capable of responding to complex business requirements that arise in a changing global business environment. The program focuses on skill development, team-work, inclusivity principles and value-based management creating “Business Ready Managers “.

How do you tend to build an industry connected with this program?

The Industry-Institute Partnership Centre (IIPC) of the institute is dedicated to promote the close interaction of industry and various departments of the institute. The IIPC facilitates consultancy, sponsored R & D projects and industrial and academic training that are not prescribed in the syllabus in addition to conducting industrial exhibitions and interaction meets.

What were the challenges that you faced while inculcating this program in your curriculum?

“Curriculum prepares students for today’s world.” The most difficult thing we faced is to work with the institute's community, business partners, and industry leaders to develop course content that meets the future needs of employers.
