Dr. Raviraj Sorate is the HOD Civil at PVPIT. He has done Ph.D in Civil Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering. He has an experience of 14 years in the teaching field. He has published more than 14 books and more than 15 national and International level Journals. He has also attended and addressed two important conferences and forums, one at City University New York and one at Dubai. Dr. Raviraj has also received Acharya Award in 2011 in MSBTE Sponsored event Guruquest.

You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What keeps you connected with the Education Sector and how has your experience been so far with the institute?

It has been an excellent experience so far, from the last six years I am with JSPM & TSSM Group of institutes. Actually since from the starting of my career I am in educational field, many people generally lands into their career by chance but I have chosen the educational field by choice so it keeps me connected to education sector & teaching is my passion and that I am pursuing since last 15 years. 


Being the HOD Of Padmabhooshan Vasantdada Patil Institute Of Technology, Pune, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

As a HOD of Civil Department, I need to perform various roles and responsibilities towards the students & faculty. I am not new to this role since I have been working as a HOD for the last 10 years. So I know the needs of the students and we as a team ensure that students get excellent teaching –learning and after completion of their degree they should be placed in good organizations which will build their career as a responsible engineer.


Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?

In the Civil Engineering department we have several student chapters like IGS , ICI, BAI, IWWA, ISSE etc. along with our CESA. In these student chapters students perform various extracurricular activities. This enhances the skills which are required by industries to fill the Industry – institute gap. There are many activities like Competitions, workshops, expert sessions by industry persons which give enough exposure to the students to face the real-world challenges. Our management helps and motivates us in organizing such events and activities.

How does the curriculum of Padmabhooshan Vasantdada Patil Institute Of Technology ensure that the students are being prepared for the future?

We are affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune university which has had a good reputation for a long time. So we follow the curriculum which is meticulously designed by SPPU from time to time. So we are sure that the curriculum will satisfy the requirements of Civil private and Govt. sector. 


How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry oriented?

We are having Seminars and projects by keeping in mind the practical approach of a recently full fledged 1 month internship programme which ensures the industrial requirements.


What would you like people to know about your institute they may not know?

We are having excellent infrastructure, all the labs are equipped with high end instruments, Also, we have extremely talented and dedicated faculty members. As far as the Civil Department is concerned, we are having five PhD degree holders in our department and all other faculty members are either ME or Mtech. Our students bring glory to the department by their achievements, the first water Olympiad gold medal was won by our students of the Civil Department. Many students have won National and international level competitions. Our students are there in sports, athletics also. 


What do you see as the greatest strengths of Padmabhooshan Vasantdada Patil Institute Of Technology?

Our Students are our strength, the balance of both extra curricular co-curricular and excellent academics is the key feature of the Civil Department of PVPIT Bavdhan.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

Instead of bookish knowledge the students should concentrate themselves to acquire additional skills. KSAV i.e Knowledge + Skills + Attitude + Values is a success mantra so believe that CIVIL Character is very important in life .
