My name is Dr. Meenu Dua. I am the H.O.D Science Department at KL Mehta Dayanand College for Women, Faridabad. My educational qualifications include an M.Sc. in Chemistry and a Ph.D. . I have about total of 33 years of teaching experience. This current year (2023-2024), I will complete my 33rd year of teaching experience.

I have a strong passion for learning and believe in the transformative power of education. It's fulfilling to contribute to the growth and development of students, educators, and institutions. Plus, the constant evolution and innovation in education keep me engaged and committed to this sector. 


What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

My philosophy of leadership centres on fostering a student-centred approach that prioritizes the holistic development of learners. I emphasize a teamwork approach for continuous improvement and commitment to lifelong learning of both students and staff. I aim to equip the students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.


How does the curriculum of your institute ensure the best practice of industry?

We follow the curriculum from M.D. University, Rohtak. Our college is continuously working towards meeting learning objectives through smart teachings, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills according to the latest trends and needs through various operational clubs and cells. It helps the graduates acquire the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their chosen fields and meet the demands of the ever-evolving industry landscape.

What do you think should be the university’s top priority over the next 10 years?

The top priority for a university over the next 10 years should be to adapt and innovate in response to changing educational and societal needs, ensuring access, quality education, and relevance while embracing technology and diversity and a time-bound vision to achieve the goals of NEP 2020.


When you first came to your institute, what was your vision for the college? How has it evolved, and how far along are you in implementing that vision? 

When I initially joined the institute, my goal was to enable students to pursue their academic and professional interests in a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming environment. I aimed to foster innovative collaborations across various disciplines such as education, humanities, music, social sciences, science, and health sciences. My vision encompassed achieving success for students, alumni, faculty, and staff. Over time, my vision has continued to develop and remains aligned with these principles.


What would you like people to know about your college they may not know?

One lesser-known aspect is that our college provides extensive leadership opportunities, mentorship programs, supportive environment that fosters confidence and ambition in female students. This unique emphasis on women's leadership development can significantly enhance a student's educational experience and future career prospects. 


What do you see as your college’s greatest strengths?

The greatest strength of our college is the supportive environment for female students and staff. It emphasizes on overall development of students and provides value-based studies. It is one of the best women's colleges in Haryana. Our college is promoting interdisciplinary higher education and research in the fields of environmental, ecological, life sciences and other sciences.


What are some major changes that COVID-19 has brought in the education sector according to you?

Colleges have expanded their online course offerings, leading to a hybrid or fully remote learning environment and introduced online teaching tools to impart education to students. For example, the use of meeting applications like Google Meet, Zoom app etc. They have invested in technology infrastructure and tools to facilitate remote learning and improve digital resources. Also implemented strict health protocols, such as mask mandates and social distancing, to protect students and staff.

Are there any placement opportunities for students?

Yes, the college's placement department assists students in finding job prospects through various means such as arranging recruitment events, distributing job listings, and offering career advice through workshops and online seminars. The cell facilitates connections between students and potential employers and supports them in interview preparation and the development of their resumes. Additionally, the college conducts workshops on contemporary programs to enhance students' skill sets. 


How is your relationship with the students of your college?

A positive rapport with the students cultivates a favourable atmosphere of trust and encouragement, promoting positive social interactions. Special attention is provided to students who may require additional support due to a slower learning pace, while those who excel academically or in extracurricular pursuits are offered opportunities for further growth. 


What are the most important functions in the role that you play in your institute? 

As the head of the Department of Science in this institute, my primary functions include overseeing departmental operations, curriculum development, faculty management, and ensuring the quality of science education. Additionally, as a professor, my key role involves delivering high-quality lectures, conducting research, mentoring students, and contributing to academic and professional growth. 


What are the challenges faced as a part of your institute?

Professors in institutes often encounter challenges such as managing heavy workloads that include teaching, research, and administrative duties. They must navigate changing educational technologies and adapt to evolving teaching methodologies. Maintaining research productivity and securing funding can also be demanding. Balancing the needs of diverse students and staying current with the latest developments in their field is an ongoing challenge.


How do you tend to establish a healthy relationship and environment in your institute?

To foster a wholesome atmosphere within our institute, we can enhance student welfare by arranging wellness initiatives, offering counselling support, and endorsing a healthy work-life equilibrium. Equally vital is the implementation of explicit policies addressing bullying and discrimination. Let's strive to transform our institute into a welcoming and supportive environment for all.


Any suggestions/messages that you would like to give to the current youth?

I would recommend today's youth adopt the mindset of lifelong learning. In our rapidly changing world, it is essential to consistently enhance our skills and expand our knowledge. Keep your curiosity alive, be open to new opportunities, and never cease your pursuit of personal and professional development. Through adaptability and a commitment to continuous learning, they can excel in any situation and build a promising future.
