Dr. Neeru Bhatia is the Head of the Department of Commerce at KL Mehta Dayanand College for Women. She was a gold medalist during her M.Com. degree and has over 36 years of teaching experience.
You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?
The key factor that has contributed to my picking academia as a career is my passion for teaching. I was motivated to serve the community (girl students), especially to achieve the goal of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padao’. I also wanted to help out society by having educated and knowledgeable citizens.
What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?
I believe in a democratic style of leadership. I believe everyone should participate in the decision-making process. I adopt a group working pattern and work as a team with my fellow members. This approach fosters a sense of ownership and commitment among the faculty and staff, leading to a collaborative and inclusive academic environment where diverse perspectives are valued
How does the curriculum of your institute ensure the best practice of industry?
In our institute, I put efforts into giving industrial exposure to my students. I try to create an effective balance between theoretical and practical knowledge for students. This ensures that our curriculum aligns with the best practices of the industry, preparing students not only with academic excellence but also with the practical skills required for success in their chosen fields.
What do you think should be the university’s top priority over the next 10 years?
The institution will follow the guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP, 2020) and put efforts as per the directions of M.D.U. Rohtak, as our college is affiliated with this university. This commitment ensures that our university's top priority over the next ten years is to continuously evolve and adapt to the changing educational landscape, providing students with a modern and relevant education that meets the demands of the future job market.

When you first came to your institute, what was your vision for the college? How it evolved over time, and how far along in implementing that vision are you?
Our vision is for students to channel the energy of our students in a constructive manner so as to create a balance between study hours and leisure hours. We also want to augment our infrastructure to fit our students and faculty members' needs. We also aim to organise extracurricular activities to showcase the hidden talent of students.
What would you like people to know about your college they may not know?
Our college aims for the all-round development of students, as we believe in making our students capable of leading a good quality of life. It is essential to recognise that our institution is not just focused on academic excellence but is dedicated to nurturing well-rounded individuals equipped with skills, values, and experiences that contribute to their personal and professional growth.
What do you see as college’s greatest strengths?
We focus on improving the interpersonal skills of our students. We provide an education that combines discipline with values-based studies. These strengths collectively contribute to shaping well-rounded individuals who not only excel academically but also develop essential life skills and a strong moral foundation.
Are there any placement opportunities for students?
The college is tied up with various companies for the placement of UG and PG students. This strategic collaboration opens up ample opportunities for our students to transition seamlessly from academia to the professional world, bridging the gap between education and industry requirements.

How is your relationship with the students of your college?
My relationship with my students is positive, cordial, and a blend of formal and informal. This relationship dynamic establishes a conducive atmosphere for effective communication and mutual understanding between the faculty and the student body, fostering an environment where students feel supported and encouraged in their academic journey.
What are the most important functions in the role that you play in your institute?
I play the role of a leader who gives advice and suggestions and maintains a satisfying and cooperative work environment. In this multifaceted role, I strive to inspire and guide the institute's stakeholders, fostering a collaborative spirit that promotes innovation, growth, and a shared commitment to educational excellence.
Any suggestions/messages that you would like to give to the current youth?
Try to be knowledgeable rather than collecting degrees. Understand what you are learning and how you can use it to get where you want to be. Aim to translate your education into empowerment. Earn respect and create your own identity.
