Dr. Govindarao Potnuru is an experienced professional with a strong background in mechanical engineering. He holds an M.Tech. and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering and has 22 years of teaching experience. He is a ratified professor from JNTUK, Kakinada, and has received three teaching awards. Dr. Potnuru has published one book, guided and awarded two Ph.D. scholars, and holds one patent.
In terms of academic experience, Dr. Potnuru has served as a principal at Avanthi's Research and Technological Academy since November 2020. Before that, he was the principal at Swamy Vivekananda Engineering College for two years and a professor at GMR Institute of Technology for one year. He has also held positions as an Associate Professor at GMR Institute of Technology and TPIST, Bobbili, and as an Assistant Professor at TPIST, Bobbili.
Dr. Potnuru's research interests include vibratory welding, finite element analysis, engineering mechanics, mechanics of solids, dynamics of machinery, kinematics of machinery, engineering optimization, and fluid mechanics and hydraulic machinery. He has published extensively, with 54 journal publications and nine conference publications.
He is a member of various professional organizations such as IAENG, SAISE, ASTM, and SCIEI. Dr. Potnuru has also served in academic leadership roles, including coordinating exam sections, departmental coordination, and acting as the head of the mechanical engineering department. Overall, Dr. Govindarao Potnuru is an accomplished academic with extensive teaching experience, notable research contributions, and a dedication to academic growth and development.

You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?
Constant learning, especially from obstacles, and getting updated on the current trends I have held key positions ever since I started my career in teaching. Even more, after having finished my Ph.D. Teaching and research are my passions. Since finishing my Ph.D., I’ve been associated with the education sector. As an educator, I don’t just teach students; I also have to keep upskilling and learning about current trends.
Being the Principal of Avanthi’s Research and Technology Academy, what is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?
As a leader, I believe in leading by example. I understand that my actions speak louder than my words, and I strive to set a positive and inspiring example for my team members to follow. I demonstrate the behaviors and values that I expect from my team, and I hold myself to the same standards that I hold them to.
Being the Principal of Avanthi’s Research and Technology Academy, how do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your school?
There are numerous strategies for the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of my college. Social media, user-generated posts, branding, student-focused marketing, video marketing, data-based marketing, class enrollment promotions, SEO, diversity marketing, visual data marketing, paid traffic, webinars, downloadable guides, email marketing, etc.

How does the curriculum of Avanthi’s Research and Technology Academy ensure the best practice of industry?
In my view, any Engineering and Management institution should have a curriculum to develop the institution into an ultimate epitome for technological education and research.
The curriculum should be able-
- To impart high quality, industry relevant, career oriented, engineering education to rural students, to translate our vision into a reality
- To provide the best of instructional and institutional infrastructure facilities
- To have strategic linkages with industry and other institutions
- To mould students to meet the challenges of life with ethics, courage and conviction
What do you see as Avanthi’s Research and Technology Academy College’s greatest strengths?
As far as my knowledge and experience are concerned, every institution has both strengths and weaknesses. Our institution has some strengths that make it a hub of excellence and placements, and we always strive to overcome the weaknesses. Below are some of the greatest strengths:
Moral and ethical values-To ensure the holistic development of the students, JNTUK has incorporated professional ethics and morals into the curriculum. The institute itself has conducted many programs in association with other organizations to make our students better citizens.
Employable and life skills-To enhance the employability and life skills of the student community, all the departments are working through various activities in the institute.
Better career options-The college understands that the need for communication skills is vital for the students for better career options. Therefore, the institution has incorporated soft skills and communication.
Self-Study Report-The institution has recruited expert trainers in the above areas to develop communication competence among the students. Students are also allotted different responsibilities for organizing various events and activities, such as cultural programs, competitions, seminars, workshops, etc. In this way, they improve their team-building and organizational skills.
Community Orientation-The college has an NSS team that regularly visits surrounding areas and villages, where people are provided with awareness of various social, moral, and ethical principles and ways of life. The NSS team of the college participates in community service and development activities like organizing blood donation camps periodically.
What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for Avanthi’s Research and Technology Academy specifically?
