Dr. Nalinakshi N. is the Vice Principal at Atria Institute Of Technology. She is the Professor and Head of the Basic Science Engineering & Humanities Department. She has 23 years of teaching experience. She has published 13 research papers in national and international journals. She has participated in four national and six international conferences. You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

I completely agree that education is crucial for living a sustainable life. It has the power to solve any problem that humanity may face. For me, what makes the education sector so important is the students and their nature. The primary goal of education is to cater to the needs of the students and prepare them to function effectively in the world. The students' role is simply to learn as much as they can and to strive for understanding, which is much more important than knowledge alone. Teachers play a critical role in providing the necessary knowledge base and shaping the students' understanding beyond the syllabus. Ultimately, wisdom is what truly matters, and it can only be attained through a proper educational channel. Beyond the students themselves, the home and community environment also play a crucial role in their education. Effective parenting can provide a comfortable, healthy, nurturing environment, but unfortunately, not all children can grow up in such an environment. The community or educational environment becomes the only space where children can express themselves freely without fear of being judged, cornered, or criticized for their actions. Here, teachers can mold children and prepare them to face challenges more realistically.

Being the Principal of AIT, how do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your college?

Atria Institute of Technology has made a name for itself, by being the third institute in Karnataka with an NAAC A++ accreditation, and all eligible programs, including the PG program, are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation(NBA). This has been possible because we provide industry-specific courses in areas that will be at the forefront of the market shortly. What makes us unique from that of other institutions is that we focus on learning beyond the classroom with a new 24/7 platform and pedagogy. We have a strong teaching mechanism that flourishes under the guidance of our Teaching-Learning Center. Our teaching strategies are often reviewed and we try to implement the student-centric approach to learning in classrooms. Apart from this, we develop a strong mentor-mentee relationship and act as torchbearers in the lives of budding engineers. Our students are also introduced to diverse technical and cultural clubs that build them into competent professionals. Trainings, workshops, seminars, hackathons, etc, have become an integral part of our curriculum. We have invested a lot of our time and efforts by signing MoUs with industry experts and providing skill development activities through in-house training programs for teaching and non-teaching staff as well as students. Within two decades, we have not just grown in terms of strength, but also have crafted our own identity in the engineering market. With a track record of excellent placements, we have stamped the trust of our stakeholders with us.

How does the curriculum of AIT ensure the best practice of the Industry?

Under the umbrella of Visveshwaraya Institute of Technology (VTU), Belagavi we have aligned our teaching-lear pedagogy, by adopting the OBE pattern of education, and our courses have well-defined objectives and learning outcomes aligned with the vision and mission of our institute. Our institute takes utmost care in adopting multiple approaches to teach our students which include practicals, field visits, guest lectures, presentations, project works, and interactive classes. We constantly update our curriculum according to industry developments, and we continuously research and take feedback from industry experts on the changes in the industry which will be carefully reviewed by the Board of Studies and approved by an expert panel of the Academic Council. Also, we are one of the forefront t institutes to bring AI, Mechanical German Track, ECE ++, Computer Science and Design, Computer Science, and Data Science into our courses. Our curriculum is designed and approved by the members of the Board of Studies and Academic Council. The presence of experienced faculty at various bodies as members of the Board of Studies and Academic Council helps the institute to plan and execute the curriculum effectively. The institute conducts certification/ Add-on programs to impart technical and life skills. This would make the students industry-ready. Timely feedback from the different stakeholders provides valuable input for designing value-added courses and review of syllabi.

Any Insights into how your college could be more welcoming to students of different races or Economic backgrounds?

We embrace students of all backgrounds and we do not differentiate them on any grounds. The background of students is taken into consideration during the admission process and necessary counseling is also provided. The scholarship department works efficiently to apply for scholarships provided by the government and for freeships by NGOs. Meritorious students are awarded special scholarships by the management.

What would you like people to know about your Institute they may not know?

Our institute never compromises on the quality of education provided to our students. We have crafted a niche for ourselves by not just enhancing the quality of education, but by providing a world-class teaching and learning environment. Our teaching pedagogy is aligned with the vision and mission of the institute and a strategic plan is set with the help of our Teaching Learning Center and Center of Excellence to ensure employability of our graduates by catering to the needs of the society. I would like people to know that our management has been benevolent enough to provide excellent state-of-the-art infrastructure, with high-class lab facilities, we have up-to-the-mark lab and library facilities, and a dedicated gym and sports facility. Our college is known for upholding its institutional values and best practices, we nurture our students through NCC and NSS activities, cultural activities have been an integral part of our curriculum and we believe in nurturing the potential of our students. We also maintain a good track record of teaching-learning progress, research, innovation, and extensions, and an effective student support system.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

I would suggest students trust and develop confidence in themselves. They should never consider education to be a burden and must enjoy and cherish every single moment of their educational career. They must grow in the hope that as learned individuals they should always work towards the well-being of the society and strive to create a better space for themselves and the upcoming generations.

Plans that you are currently (or will be) designing for AIT Institute – International Affairs and/ or students?

We are trying to work on international admissions with the help of our energetic admission team. We have also thought about student and faculty exchange programs, online guest lectures from Internationally acclaimed speakers, and many more.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relationship and environment in your Institute?

A healthy environment in an institution can be created when there is mutual respect and understanding between individuals. We would treat every employee on the same grounds and would appreciate every act of theirs to help the college grow. We would appreciate them and ensure that their contributions towards the college will be of a major benefit. We strive to make our employees feel that they belong to the institute. 

What is the rate of admission in your college? Has it increased from the last Year?

We have one of the best admission teams with us. Over time, we have seen a growth in admissions, and this year our admission rate has improved.
