Course Curriculum Overview

Stipend provided for the whole two years of study in the institution as per the college rules. That was very much encouraging for maintaining proper attendance and maintaining proper academic record. It does prepare you for real world scenarios. Tests conducted thrice per semester and one main final exam per semester.

Faculty

1 faculty per 30 students. It impacts the learning experience adversely when the faculty has lesser knowledge about the subject and just paraphrases whatever study materials they are provided. I interact with my teachers as much as possible. Not everyone are easily approachable but some make the effort.

The technical fest is called "Techniche" and it is conducted in September and the cultural fest is called "Alcheringa" which is generally conducted in February. The central library is the main library of the campus which is spread across a large area, well maintained, and equipped with a large number of hard-bound books and e-books. The classrooms at IIT Guwahati are smart classrooms with centrally conditioned AC and a large sitting area. The campus also has facilities for various sports such as cricket, football, badminton, swimming, etc. and all the hostels have a common game room with indoor games such as carrom, foosball, table tennis, etc. The student activity complex (SAC) is a separate building for all the student clubs such as electronics, robotics, dramatics, dance, music, art, etc.

Course Curriculum Overview

I chose this course because I always had an interest in the Biotech field and I wanted to work in the industrial Biotech sector. This course is designed in a manner that I can get hands-on experience with various lab techniques and exposure to the industrial sector. The student-faculty ratio is quite good at IIT Guwahati. There are a lot of faculties with expertise in different fields and you can get faculty in every field you are interested in. Most of the faculties have done Ph.D. or post-Doc in their respective fields and teach quite applied explaining the concepts. The exams are conducted according to the academic calendar and the exams are moderately difficult.

Course Curriculum Overview

Our Course curriculum was designed in a very innovative and subtle way. It includes all the aspects a masters student has to know. The teaching mostly emphasize on thinking rather than just mugging up things. You always have a take away message and orientation towards research after each day. The faculty over here is well qualified, with majority of them having their higher studies from well renowned universities from the world like Harvard, Oxford, Stanford, Rice University to name a few. Faculty student ratio is also good. Each faculty had almost 2-3 students to supervise and around 5 PhD candidates.

Remarks

Beautiful campus covered by mountain, highly educated and enthusiastic faculty, course curriculum, besides the tag of IIT. The department was well equipped with all the necessary instruments required for the research, being a new campus all the instruments were new and in good working conditions. The place is indeed heaven on earth. The winds at night, the mountains, a drizzly rain sometimes and the river sound makes you forget all the hardships of the day and gives you strength to work harder with more passion the next day.

Course Curriculum Overview

I was a biotech graduate and was looking for PG course without any specialization, Faculties are good, very motivated towards research, skilled in their area of expertise. PhD scholars are really great as well under these faculties. Teaching method was mainly using presentations, and somewhat using blackboards. Teaching was online during pandemic but the professors managed to educate really well. Course work is not very hectic. students get a lot of free time. Practical's were somewhat unsatisfactory as not everyone got to perform experiments due to lack of time and space. But 1 year project time and complete independence for handling instruments filled the gap. Examinations are really easy if your concepts are clear. only a few subjects required mugging up, rest were completely logical. Passing the course with good pointer (above 8) is really easy even if you consider yourself average. 1 year project work will cover up the less pointer. Exams dates were predefined but were conducted according to the ease of professors and students. almost every exam schedule for biotech department is conducted whenever the students are comfortable.

Campus Life

Numerous clubs and activities to do. There are few popular ones such as cycling, hiking and trekking, etc. which allow to explore areas nearby campus. Annual tech fests are also conducted which are currently on stay due to pandemic. But even during this time multiple online activities are been conducted which would suit interest of every student. The activities are not limited to educational, you can explore your creative side as well. A physical and digital library is available with ample books. All clubs are groups are run by students. classroom amenities include projectors, power generators, room heaters and some classrooms have cushioned benches as wooden tend to get really chilly during winter. Many sports activities are present yet a shortage of indoor sports as majority of times students prefer them during winter and available ones are mostly full.

Ques. How is the placement for an MTech in biomedical engineering at IIT Bombay?

● Top Answer By Advait Joshi on 20 Mar 23

Ans. One of my friends completed his MTech in Biomedical Engineering from IIT Bombay and gave an insight into the placement scenario of the same course. Out of 16 students who attended placements from this course, 14 students were placed. Another friend told me that 11 out of 17 in his batch were placed under decent roles. The others opted out of placements. A number of Biomedical companies like GE, Cerner, L&T etc visit the campus and offer decent roles. Many non core companies also allow Biomedical students to sit for their placements and sometimes offer good roles too. A number of analytics and data science jobs are also offered. Top core roles offered here are Associate Analyst, Lab Analyst, etc. Many students even opt for PhD after MTech.  Particulars  Statistics Highest Salary INR 1,80,000,00 Average Salary INR 21,500,00 A representative of the class is responsible for placement activities and inviting companies to the campus.Read more

● Top Answer By Omkar Rana on 20 Mar 23

Ans. You must submit a certificate as proof of 60% marks (55% for SC/ST) in qualifying degrees, or else you will not be eligible for admission to M.Tech in Biomedical Engineering. Procedure for applying to M.Tech Biomedical Engineering After MBBS Clear one of the tests AIIMS/MCI/JIPMER/PGI-Chandigarh/AFMC-Pune, DNB Part I national level medical post graduate entrance examinations or GATE Life Sciences for Medical and Biological Sciences. Fill out the application form for Masters in IIT Bombay  Written test and Interview Once your application is selected, you will be called in for the Written Test and Interview. The written test is conducted in the morning and results will be declared in the afternoon. Your interview will be conducted only if you qualify for the written test.  For MBBS students, the written test is of Mathematics only The syllabus for this test is in accordance with that of 12th class CBSE. Ques. What is the scope of MTech in biomedical engineering from IIT Bombay?

● Top Answer By Pravalika Srivastav on 21 Mar 23

Ans. The scope of every course spreads over a wide spectrum and cannot be generalized since it's based on one's interests and preferences. However, I have written about the scope of an M.Tech in Biomedical Engineering based on some major aspects Job Prospects : This course offers a number of non-core jobs and core jobs. However, very limited core roles are offered that too with low packages. Many non-core jobs are offered but these are targeted by many; dual degree holders as well as M.Tech. students from other branches so the competition is high. You will have to portray your personality and leadership traits in order to get such roles. Higher Study: IIT Bombay has highly learned professors who have completed their research in elite institutes in the USA before joining IIT Bombay. Joining Ph.D. under them or getting recommendation letters can get you good research positions in top institutes. You will have to work hard to meet the right professor that offers you the best project to work on. Education: Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering in IIT Bombay is more inclined towards Biosciences than core Engineering so it's recommended you take courses from the Electrical Engineering department also. It might be difficult if you don't have a good knowledge of the same but trust me it will help you in the long run. Entrepreneurship: IIT Bombay has a rich startup culture and has given birth to many co-founders. Entrepreneurship broadens the scope for others. For instance, many physicians join to help you. So we can safely conclude that the scope of M.Tech in Biomedical Engineering from IIT Bombay is wide and offers an abundance of opportunities.Read more

Ques. What are the career opportunities after mtech in Clinical Eng. from IIT Madras?

● Top Answer By Sneha Thakur on 30 Mar 23

Ans. MTech in Clinical Engineering is a great program offered but lacks the necessary hype mainly because not many are aware of this discipline. It’s an excellent program at the Master's level for B.tech in Biomedical Engineering students. Clinical Engineering is a 2.5 years M.tech program in which you have to be associated with 3 institutes IIT Madras: Starting 6 months CMC Vellore: Next 6 Months SCTIMST Trivandrum: 1 year These are excellent in their respective fields and offer the best experience opponents could ask for. This program is for those who are interested in innovating hospitals or creating Medical Devices that can bring massive changes in this field. Under this course, you get hands-on experience by working with doctors. Students have to complete several projects both in CMC and SCTIMST Trivandrum. These projects and experiences help you get a job related to Medical Devices while many even start their own. Once completed, you are required to do a project in any of the 3 locations of your choice after which you get a degree from IIT Madras. Hardly anyone remains without a job after this program. People usually opt for higher studies, and look for core jobs or jobs in MNCs. Overall, the career opportunities for MTech in Clinical Engineering graduates are diverse, and the specific roles and responsibilities will depend on the organization you work for and the specific job you hold.Read more

Ques. How is M.Tech Bioprocess Engineering at IIT Madras?

● Top Answer By Arati Sinha on 31 Mar 23

Ans. M.Tech Bioprocess Engineering specifically revolves around Mathematical concepts and even contains concepts related to engineering mathematics. It is most suitable for those who study Engineering Mathematics in their Bachelor's program. For those with only GATE-level Math knowledge, it might be difficult to cope and you might even end with a low CGPA. Some core subjects that contain tough Mathematical concepts include Transport Phenomenon Thermodynamics in Biochemical Engineering Bioprocess Control Downstream Processing  Additionally, there are assignments related to coding in MATLAB in Thermodynamics and Bioprocess Control which are very challenging unless you find good assistance by your friends or seniors. The coursework also contains projects in both dry and wet labs. The former is related to modeling/simulation/coding either in MATLAB or Python while the latter are experimental projects conducted in labs. The specialization is still in its infancy and has very few core companies coming for placements. Some core companies that visited in the past few years are Perfect Day (INR 6 LPA) Syngene String Biosciences However, non-core opportunities are plenty with first from various sectors like analytics, finance, and software offering great packages provided you have basic computer science knowledge.Read more

Ques. What should I choose for M.Tech in Bio tech, IIT Mandi or NIT Bhopal?

● Top Answer By Soutrik Gupta on 26 May 23

Ans. I feel you are torn between the IIT and NIT tags here. In that case, new IITs are a better option unless you are considering top NITs like Warangal, Surathkal, or Calicut.  But it seems you have 2 generation NITs in your list only. In that case, IIT Mandi is a preferable choice.  IIT Mandi has a better learning environment and competition  IIT Mandi has one of the most beautiful campuses and it’s location is also a boon. The new IITs have young professors who are dynamic and friendly.  Either program will offer a plethora of opportunities, and choosing one over the other will be merely because of personal preferences. Read more

Ques. How is M.Tech biotechnology at IIT Mandi in terms of research?

● Top Answer By Vaibhav Sinha on 30 Jun 23

Ans. Choosing an M.Tech. in biotechnology for research purposes might not be a good decision.  For better job opportunities and placements, opt for other streams like CSC; otherwise, you will end up as a postgraduate in the biotech field without the perfect job you wish for.  The biotech department in most of institutions, including IITs, is weak in nature. Most students prefer other streams for their higher studies, which is a good idea to secure your career.  The only option left for you is to take the JRF and NET exams. If you have a strong interest in the biotech field prefer institutions like IISERs, TIFR, IISc, DU and JNU other than Mandi Read more
