Bihar DElEd admissions are primarily conducted through the Bihar DElEd Joint Entrance Test (JET), which is held across more than 330 exam centers in the state. Students who have passed their 10+2 (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks are eligible to apply. In addition to the entrance exam pathway, direct admission is also offered by a few institutes in Bihar.
The entire admission process is governed by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), which administers the Bihar DElEd entrance exam, manages the counselling process, and ultimately grants seats to the shortlisted students. Applications are now open for the 2025–2027 session.
The Diploma in Elementary Education (DElEd) is a two-year program designed for students who wish to pursue a teaching career in primary and upper-primary stages. Candidates can pursue the course right after completing their Class 12th.

Counselling/Seat Allocation
Candidates who have successfully cleared the Bihar DElEd Joint Entrance Exam will be eligible for counselling. Only those candidates who have passed the Bihar DElEd Joint Entrance Exam and filled out the online application (CAF) will be included in the selection process. Generally, three rounds of counselling are held.
Please note that any applicant who fails the DElEd Joint Examination will not be selected for admission to any college. Also, any candidate who has passed the entrance exam but did not submit the online application will not be included in the selection list.
Students will then be allotted seats based on
- Score (Rank) of the student in the entrance examination
- Number of approved seats in the colleges conducting DElEd Course
- Institute options filled by the candidate
- Reservation provisions released by the state government
The first selection list will be released by the committee and displayed on its website. Selected students can log in using their credentials to see the results. The selected candidates will need to print out the intimation letter, CAF, along with the other original documents demanded by the college and contact the college for admission. Students can then get themselves enrolled in their allotted training institute by the provided deadline.
In case the student fails to get enrolled by the deadline then their name will be removed from the list and they will not be considered for the second/third lists. If the candidate is not satisfied with the lower priority institute allocated to them in the first list, they can opt-in for the ‘slide-up’ option by going through the student login on the portal for the possibility of enrollment to higher priority institutes. (Note: The priority list cannot be changed)
After selecting the slide-up option the concerned student can be selected in the high priority options already filled in the application form. With the selection of the student in the second list their name will become vacant in the first list.
Students will need to pay a security deposit of INR 3000 to the allotted institute to ensure their admission, only then will they have the option of slide up. The security fees do not need to be paid again even if they get selected in the second/third list. (Applicable to both government and private institutions)
Students who were not selected for the first list will have their names considered for the second/third list in case there is a vacancy. Such students are permitted to modify their previous choice for admission in the institute related to the vacant seat after the prescribed period of admission based on the first selection list, from the selected options successfully filled in the Common application form (CAF) earlier on the portal.

Bihar DElEd Admission 2025: FAQs
Ques. I am in the final year of my DElEd. What career options will I have after completing the course?
Ans. Once you complete your DElEd, you become eligible to work as a Primary Teacher (PRT) for Classes 1 to 5 and as an Upper Primary Teacher (TGT equivalent for Classes 6 to 8 in some states after additional qualifications). Many government and private schools recruit DElEd graduates for foundational and elementary level teaching. Apart from teaching, you can also apply for government teacher recruitment exams such as CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) or BTET (Bihar Teacher Eligibility Test). Passing these exams further strengthens your chances of securing a permanent government teacher post. If you wish, you may also pursue higher studies such as B.Ed, B.A. in Education, or M.Ed to expand your career prospects and eligibility for higher teaching positions.
Ques. Can I apply for DElEd in Bihar after Class 10?
Ans. No, you cannot apply for DElEd admission immediately after Class 10. The minimum qualification required is 10+2 (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks. For reserved category candidates, there is a relaxation of 5% in the qualifying marks. Therefore, you must first complete your Class 12th before applying for Bihar DElEd.
Ques. Is it useful to do a B.Ed after completing DElEd?
Ans. Yes, pursuing a B.Ed (Bachelor of Education) after completing your DElEd is very beneficial. DElEd prepares you for primary-level teaching (PRT), whereas B.Ed makes you eligible to teach at the secondary and senior secondary levels (TGT and PGT). Having both DElEd and B.Ed qualifications increases your career flexibility, allowing you to apply for a wide range of teaching positions in schools, both government and private. It also improves your chances of qualifying for competitive exams such as CTET, STET, and DSSSB teacher recruitments.
Ques. Can I become a TGT teacher with just DElEd and a graduate degree?
Ans. To become a Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT), a graduate degree along with a B.Ed (or equivalent teacher training qualification) is mandatory. DElEd alone, even when combined with graduation, does not qualify you for TGT positions. However, your DElEd will help you secure primary-level teaching jobs and give you valuable teaching experience, which will be an advantage once you complete your B.Ed and apply for TGT posts. The upper age limit for TGT recruitment in most states, including Bihar, is 35 years, though relaxations apply for reserved categories.
Ques. What entrance exam do I need to clear for Bihar DElEd admission?
Ans. Admission to Bihar DElEd is done through the Bihar DElEd Joint Entrance Test (JET), conducted annually by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB). The exam is usually held in offline (pen-paper) mode at multiple centres across the state. It tests candidates on subjects such as General Knowledge, Numerical Ability, Reasoning, Hindi/English Language, and Teaching Aptitude. After clearing the exam, candidates must participate in the counselling and seat allotment process to secure admission in government or private DElEd colleges.
Ques. What is the fee structure for the Bihar DElEd course?
Ans. The application fee for the Bihar DElEd entrance exam is INR 960 for General/EWS/BC/EBC candidates and INR 760 for SC/ST/PwD candidates. As for the course fee, the Bihar government has set a cap for private institutions: the total fee for the two-year DElEd programme cannot exceed INR 1,20,000 per student. Government colleges usually charge a much lower fee, often ranging between INR 15,000 – INR 30,000 per year, making them more affordable. Exact fees may vary slightly depending on the institution.
Ques. What documents are required during Bihar DElEd counselling and admission?
Ans. Candidates must carry the following documents for verification:
- 10th and 12th mark sheets and certificates
- School/college leaving certificate
- Migration and conduct certificates (if applicable)
- Caste certificate (for reserved category candidates)
- Passport-size colour photographs (usually 5)
- Admit card and result/scorecard of Bihar DElEd JET
- Printout of the Common Application Form (CAF) and intimation letter
Only after verification of these documents at the allotted institute will the admission be confirmed.
Ques. What is the scope of DElEd through distance learning in Bihar?
Ans. Distance learning is an alternative for those unable to attend regular classes. Institutions such as NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) and IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) offer DElEd courses in distance mode, particularly for untrained in-service teachers. Some private institutions also provide distance DElEd options. However, candidates must ensure that the course and institution are recognized by NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) to make their qualification valid for teaching posts.
Ques. What career options are available after completing DElEd besides teaching?
Ans. While the primary aim of DElEd is to prepare teachers, graduates can also explore related fields. They may work as education counsellors, curriculum developers, content creators for educational publishers, special education assistants, or private tutors. Some graduates also join NGOs and government education projects focused on elementary education. With further qualifications like B.Ed or M.Ed, candidates can enter higher-level academic, administrative, or research roles in the education sector.
Ques. Is there an age limit to apply for Bihar DElEd?
Ans. Yes. The minimum age required is 17 years at the time of admission. While the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has not set an upper age limit for appearing in the entrance exam, candidates should check the admission notifications carefully each year. Reserved category candidates may get age relaxation if any such condition is specified by the state government.
Ques. How many counselling rounds are conducted for Bihar DElEd admission?
Ans. Generally, there are three rounds of counselling conducted by BSEB. Candidates who clear the entrance exam and fill the online Common Application Form (CAF) are included in the merit list. Based on their rank, seat availability, reservation rules, and institute preferences, candidates are allotted seats. Those unsatisfied with the first allotment can choose the “slide-up” option for higher preferences in later rounds. A security deposit of INR 3,000 is required to confirm admission, which remains valid throughout all counselling rounds.
