Course Curriculum Overview

Very indepth curriculum with multiple aspects covered. No textbooks provided. Reference books and PDFs are given according to faculty members. Theory inclusion could be improved by providing a structured syllabus. Assignment submissions make up for 60% of your grades with juries covering the rest. Some subjects have tests. Each semester has one set of juries. The marks you get in these depends on your work quality, presentation skills and knowledge on the subject.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees excluding hostel is around ?19.4 lakh for the entire four-year course for Indian students . International students pay more. stationary is catered for by students according to course requirements and takes up a significant amount overtime. The fees do increase later on, and there are backlog fines. There are also scholarships available for certain classes, north eastern students and military wards. details for the same are available on the SID website.

Course Curriculum Overview

The curriculum is definitely relevant to the course, it follows almost same syllabus as national institutions only difference is that we don't have jury instead we will have submit a lot of assignments digitally and we have 3 main written exam for which you have to clear. There is a lot of theory and books related to design will be given to read and questions will be asked based on it. The cat exams be will be held for 1hr and 30 mins and the fat exams will be held for 3hrs. The fat exams are basically lab exams for all the subjects and it is also the semester end exam, so it will be out of 100 marks. Apart from this there will be soft skills which is basically an extra subject which we have to take every semester as it aims on placement preparation. As for improvements, the faculties are mostly tamil speaking so, it would be a bit more diverse if they hired people from all over india as vit consists of students from all over india. And placements are still not upto mark for designing, ofcourse because it's a new department.

Campus Life

The campus life is great, the people around can be friendly especially in designing the seniors are great and interactive. Vit has two main fests that thrills the whole campus which are GRAVITAS and RIVERA. Gravitas will be held towards the end of September which last for about 10 days and the whole university will be filled with stalls, games, photobooths and even workshops for different departments. It will also consist of fun events like laser tag, maze, car racing etc. And the next event is Rivera which is basically a music fest and is usually held towards the end of February. A celebrity would visit the campus and there will be concerts and fests which lasts for days. It is open for everyone to join over India and is one of the main highlights of VIT.

Faculty

in the first year there are 75 students in a class and minimum 3 faculties are assigned for every module so that the ratio is maintained as 1:25, faculties are approachable and some of them are like friends to us, college also provides visiting faculties who are experts in there own fields, there are no exams there are modules which are evaluated seperately and then at the end of the semester a jury is conducted where designer from industry come to see our work and we have to present all our work of the particular semester and on that we're evaluated.

Fees and Financial Aid

I will be paying approximately 3.5 lakhs this year including all the stuffs like mess fees, hostel fees, security deposit extra, scholarship is given to those who ace the specific year, i dont know about the fee criteria for other categories but in my knowledge they pay the same amount.

Faculty

We, in industrial design, have a batch strength of 51 students. Till last year it used to be 25. We also have a faculty of five professors for the first year. Including the faculty from IDC(IIT BOMBAY), Prof. Saleem Ahmed and NID AHEMDABAD, Prof. Vaidyanathan, Prof. Raj Kumar, Prof. Bhawani and a prof. for the soft skills (idk her name). We have i guess 2 main exams at the and of each sem. We just had out CAT-1 its was very easy.

Course Curriculum Overview

The VIT Vellore's Bachelor's in Industrial Design course has a good curriculum. It used to be too much theoretical till the last year. But From My year(this year) they changed it. not it's just one theory subject, i.e., Introduction to design. Its prepares us well up to the level of the industry. It can be improved in freehand sketching subject. We haven't had our exams till now so xant really say how difficult they'll be...

Course Curriculum Overview

The first year is the foundation year... In which every small yet necessary things is taught to you. We're told about an assignment in briefing. And how we've to do the assignment is left on us to explore our creativity to use our mind in creation of something this is originally yours. This approach helps you to grow as a creative being... It prepares really well. I mean I used my learnings from my first semester in my second semester and it helped me to achieve a different and very unique design for many assignments given in the second semester. No such improvements for the curriculum. I've spoken to some NID visiting facilities too about the same. They say the appropriate approach to teach an important course has been followed in your college which sometimes is not even followed in NID too. We've a sem end jury which helps us to gain external validation for our work as a designer that helps us to grow.

Faculty

Our faculties are highly qualified. They're from the top D-schools from this country including NID, IDC,etc My batch strength is 240 something. So we're divided into 4 sections, each containing 60 students. To which one faculty is issued and associates faculties are also there. The faculties pay attention to everyone in the class. Their teaching methods are very good. At times they're strict with approvals and evaluations but their knowledge is very appreciable. As I've mentioned earlier too, there are no restrictions on approaching faculties. You can go and talk to them anytime. You just have to ask when they're free. They give you time according to their schedule.

Faculty

The student to faculty ratio would be around 25 to 1, which is fairly adequate. The culture of the college is such that it allows interaction beyond the class hours. The college has a module system of learning, and each module requires a visiting faculty to teach the students, and overseen by an internal faculty. However in the recent years, the quality of visiting faculty has reduced. And the internal faculties are not very qualified to teach a lot of the courses.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course has a foundation year which is common for all students and gives a general knowledge of design and skills to the students. Then from second year onwards, students can choose a specialization. The course has a module system, where one module could be of 1 week, or 3 weeks or even 10 weeks. This system allows a lot of exposure to students to various fields in design.

Fees and Financial Aid

Tution fee is 1.76l per year for regular students which might differ for NRI or foreign students. There has been no hike in fees but there has been a hike in hostel fees.I had taken 2 share bed ac room which was 1.50l for an year. It make may differ for the number of beds in room which ranges from 2 to 8 share be rooms ac and non ac are available. There are regular as well as special blocks which ay incur different fee structures. The charge shuttle throughout the campus is Rs15 and you have stores inside the campus where you can purchase materials for projects. There are scholarships which are different for different courses. If you join club which is self funded then you might have to pay for.The scholarship amout is not much when compared to the fees per year though it motivates us in studying and being the topper. You can win cash awards by participating in competitions through clubs and chapters. You can also join certain VIT funded startups to get some income and boost your portfolio

Campus Life

The campus at VIT is average but you will get a lot of exposure since you will get to deal with a lot of people from different folks of life in India as well as the world. You will also get a lot of exposure by indulging in clubs and its chapter's activities. There are several fests like Gravitas and Rivera in which Gravitas is tech fest while Rivera is a cultural fest. In Gravitas you will get to participate in a lot fun activities which inturn is knowledgebale as it is conducted by the students itself. The Rivera on the other hand is one of the best college fest in India with a lot of concerts celebs etc... The college has huge library where you can get every kind useful books. There several sports teams , dance teams etc. which are best in class. The social life is average because of the "Red tag annas" which makes it difficult to even indulge in a social conversational acitivity. Students are treated inequal by gender because of red tags in this modernworld this could be better

Admission

I got admission in the college after clearing SEED(Symbiosis entrance exam for design). After the exam also there were two rounds of studio test and personal interaction. The eligibilty required a 10+2 pass certificate from a recognised board with atleast 50% marks in aggregate.

Faculty

The faculty was very cooperative. I remember how they would go out of their way to help students at times. They taught us with passion because they were so interested in the subject. They had years of professional or teaching experience in this field.
