Debasruto's Review On Symbiosis Institute Of Design - [SID], Pune

The college has provided us with design studios and computer labs which are up to date with specialized application software and high quality laser printer are also at the disposal of students to enhance their creative skills. SID library has a thinking room, reading hall with seating capacity of 110 students. It has a collections of international journals & magazines, technical writings, e- resources, degree projects, audiovisual material etc. Thus SID promotes value based and ethical learning and develop global competencies & creativity among the students.

The course nurtures to provide rigorous inputs in thinking, conceptualizing and technology to the students. The subjects include information analysis & collection, material studio, product analysis & functional design, craft documentation presentation, design processes, introduction to photography etc and in the last semester we are given a degree project. Industrial design program focuses on a wide range of learning so the the students can deal with products relating to packing design, transportation, lifestyle. Duration of the course is four years divided into eight semesters.

Companies such as Infosys, ADP, Art company decor, Maya digital studios pvt ltd, Accenture India, Mediashala, Whirlpool, Cognizant, Camp hire, Craft UX and many other top notch companies visit SID every year and provides a starting package of 40,000 to 80,000 per month. Internships in areas such as furniture & interior, craft based products, consumer goods, UX design, IT products and design etc are provided to students though I am not pretty sure of the minimum stipend that is guaranteed.

The total hostel charges are approx to 1,96,000 which includes hostel fees, security deposit amount, bus charges and mess fees. The fees might change according to the sharing basis and the hostel wing chosen by the student. The total for four years is 16.3 L which includes academic fees, security and library deposit.The fees need to paid by RTGS/NEFT/DD. The fees is quite expensive for me.

Study tour is organised for students and we are taken to explore sites such as Ellora caves, Ajanta, Paithan looms, site sketching, collecting old references and evidences related to these historical sites. 'Anubhav' program gives a platform to students so that they can have meaningful interactions with industry professionals. Lakshya is a 24 hour sketch a thon in which live demonstrations are given in the field of sketching to students where they can get knowledge about various domains such as product sketching, calligraphy, portrait, character sketching, automotive, illustration in fashion, caricature etc.

The candidate should have passed class 12th in any stream with minimum 50% marks or 10+3 diploma course students whose degree is approved by the State board are also eligible to apply. A design aptitude test known as SEED which have objects questions on geometry, design, general design awareness, Indian culture etc. There is no negative marking in this course.After that a interview round will be conducted for the selected candidates and later a merit list will be prepared on the basis of which you will be granted admission in the college.

The teachers are very supportive in our department. They put us through a real time test to test our creative and analytical ability to solve a problem. They are always open to answer the queries related to visualization and digital skills. They foster the spirit of team building so as to enhance employ-ability and make the students provoking leaders of the sector they would be working in future.
