- Poor administration structure- for example the placement cell is not of much help to the students
Course Curriculum Overview
The course has a foundation year which is common for all students and gives a general knowledge of design and skills to the students. Then from second year onwards, students can choose a specialization. The course has a module system, where one module could be of 1 week, or 3 weeks or even 10 weeks. This system allows a lot of exposure to students to various fields in design.
Internships Opportunities
Most of the internships provided were for a few fields like graphic design, UX design. A lot of the students had to rely on off campus placements for summer internships and graduation projects. The summer internship is optional, while the graduation project requires you to complete a project in 6 months.
Placement Experience
There was no solid placement cell in the college until last year. Most of the students find better opportunities in off campus placements. The placement cell provides offers for summer internship and graduation projects, there is no knowledge if the placement cell provides full time job offers.
Fees and Financial Aid
The cost of education is relatively high for a govt college, for each semester being 1.5 lakhs including mess and hostel. Apart from that, students have to spend money from their own pockets for various projects and the college does not provide a lot of material. Scholarship programs are very minimal.
Campus Life
The campus life is very chill, there are very little restrictions on students. People can roam around the campus at 3 am if they feel like it. The mess and hostel is relatively good comapred to other campus. There are only 1 or 2 official college events, which are not very fun. Cultural events are organized and funded independently by the student community itself.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel rooms are built recently and are fairly comfortable. There are little power cuts and basic facilities are provided. The regulations are not very strict. The mess runs independently and provides 3 time meal and a snack break. There is a canteen also.
Admission
The NID entrance exam is the most fun exam you could give if you're someone who enjoys creativity and problem solving. The exam has 2 rounds, both being very subjective. So it's a bit vague how they select and rank students. Information on application can be found online easily.
Faculty
The student to faculty ratio would be around 25 to 1, which is fairly adequate. The culture of the college is such that it allows interaction beyond the class hours. The college has a module system of learning, and each module requires a visiting faculty to teach the students, and overseen by an internal faculty. However in the recent years, the quality of visiting faculty has reduced. And the internal faculties are not very qualified to teach a lot of the courses.
