The faculty are all very well qualified with PHDs in their respective fields. In computer science department there is a shortage of staff but other than that the faculty is very good. The curriculum is not too academically challenging.
The campus is very serene and peaceful. Full of trees and the boy to girl ratio is about 3 : 4. The architecture of the buildings are very brutalist in design. There is plenty of non teaching staff who keep the campus safe and clean.
The students hold a lot of power in the institution. Everytime the management tries to restrict the students freedom, the students hold protests and the management backs off.
Dislikes
The campus is very small, around 40 acres. When you live and study inside this same campus , life will seem very monotonous and boring. Also the number of students are very less , approximately 300, so you see the same faces again and again.
The location of the campus is in the middle of an industrial area so if you want to go out , everything good is minimum 2 hours away. Even chennai city is 2 hrs away. Outside the campus it is a different world , full of dust , pollution and sewage.
Attendance is very strict in this institution. You need 80 percentage to write exam without condonation. If you fall below 70 percentage , you will have to write the exam in the next semester. Condonation is 250 per paper.
Course Curriculum Overview:
As it is an Institute of National Importance and not a university, the curriculum and syllabus are prepared by our teachers themselves. The certificate does have value when you go for higher studies. In psychology in particular, I think the curriculum could be a bit more relevant by including statical analysis methods like SPSS. Also the institute doesn't offer any practical exposure of any sort. There should be field works and real life case studies integrated into the curriculum.
In terms of punctuality, I will say it deserves 1000 out of 100, term exams are on time as well result.
It is moderately difficult. There will be 40 marks allotted to internal which includes assignments and analytical tests and the other 60 marks are allotted to term examination.
