The MD in Tuberculosis and Respiratory Medicine at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal is a 3-year postgraduate medical degree programme affiliated to Manipur University. RIMS is a premier central government medical institution in Northeast India, established in 1972, and is one of the leading institutions in the region for postgraduate medical education. The MD Tuberculosis and Respiratory Medicine programme (also referred to as MD TB and Chest Diseases or MD Pulmonary Medicine) trains doctors in the diagnosis and management of tuberculosis, respiratory infections, asthma, COPD, lung cancer, and other chest diseases. The total fees for the course are extremely nominal at approximately Rs. 16,742 for the entire 3-year duration, making it one of the most affordable PG medical programmes in India. The course has a seat intake of 5 seats per year and admission is based on NEET PG scores. Given the very high burden of tuberculosis in the Northeast region, this specialisation is particularly relevant and in demand.

As of March 2026, the NEET PG 2025 counselling cycle for RIMS Imphal MD/MS admissions (academic session 2025-26) has been completed through multiple rounds including Round 3, which concluded in January 2026. Admissions for the 2025-26 batch are now closed. For the upcoming 2026-27 session, NEET PG 2026 registration is expected to begin tentatively in April 2026, with the exam scheduled for June 2026. RIMS Imphal state-level counselling for 2026-27 is expected to commence after NEET PG 2026 results are declared (tentatively July-August 2026).
