Ans. IIT Indore CSE is a well-established branch and the program is rigorous with numerous opportunities. It's the backbone of the institute especially because of the rich coding culture it promotes. Here are a few pros and cons to make you understand the program better Pros: IIT Indore CSE has highly qualified faculty that are amongst the most experienced in India. The institute is well known for its rich coding culture and the ACM ICPC achievements are a source of motivation for many. Being a part of the IT family, it definitely does well in the infrastructure aspect. IIT Indore provides excellent opportunities to its students and many are able to make it into Ivy League Universities. IIT Indore provides excellent undergraduate research opportunities and has many foreign collaborations. IIT Indore CSE placements are great and during 2022 placements the CSE branch managed to secure 100% placements with the highest CTC of BTech at INR 48.5 LPA and the average at INR 30.32 LPA Cons: IIT Indore has a small batch size meaning you have fewer geniuses around you. The small batch size makes it harder to develop an all-around coding culture. In all, IIT Indore CSE is a great branch and should be considered a good option.Read more

The faculties are very approachable and cooperative. They guide you to do projects and even motivate you for research work. Additionally, they teach you tactics to clear GRE and GATE for top universities and PSU respectively. Such kind of guidance isn’t available at every institute. The faculty-to-student ratio is great around 12 - 13 faculties for 40 students. This helps the students to get individual attention from faculty who track the personal and individual growth of every student. IIT Indore has ties with the University of Stuttgart, Germany enabling students to do internships in the second year. The students' demands are given due importance and the HODs bring all necessary changes demanded by the students to make things easy. Ans. In general, it is better to choose the branch of your choice. Given below are a few trade-offs of the two choices given on the question which may help you in making the decision. MEMS - IIT Indore: Administration: IIT Indore belongs to the 2008-09 batch of IITs. Although it can’t be compared with older IITs but it has made remarkable progress in this short span of time. The administration and departments are well-settled. Extra-curricular at the institute are also developing with time. In 4-5 years, the institute is expected to have a great future. Course: BTech MEMS at IIT Indore is fairly new and the duration of the existence of the course is the same as the B Tech Electrical course at IIT Bhilai. However, the MEMS department has been functioning for a while at IIT Indore. As a department it has experience. The faculties are great. Placements: MEMS has a lower placement rate as compared to other core branches of engineering. Metallurgy and Material Science is a niche field of study and the degree outcome is more research-oriented. Change of Branch: However, you can change your branch to Electrical or Mechanical from MEMES at IIT I, if you work hard in your 1st year. Changing to CS is always difficult because of the competition. Electrical at IIT Bhilai: Facilities: IIT Bhilai was established back in 2016. It is only 4 years old. Electrical is a core Engineering discipline with better career prospects. But the disadvantage of this choice is the institute. You will have a few seniors in your branch and temporary faculties. Extracurricular: You will have good opportunities to start events, clubs, in the institute. On the other hand, the future at this institute is a bit uncertain. Campus Life: The institute also does not have a proper campus. You will not have a proper campus life for the next 4 years. The table below shows a brief overview of the two institutes. Ans. My brother was in a similar dilemma last year when he had to choose between MnC IIT Guwahati and CSE IIT Indore. Eventually, he went for IIT Indore CSE. The main reason he decided against going for the MnC program was his lack of interest in Math. And when we talk about Math at IIT, trust me when I say it’s at another level. It’s purely proof-based and high-level Math that can be handled only by true Math lovers. The academic workload is also high with 60% Math and 40% CS courses. Now, here are a few points that might convince you to join IIT Indore instead IIT Indore qualified for ACM-ICPC World Finals thrice. This in itself is quite an achievement considering this event's importance. As per HackerRank, IIT Indore is said to have the best coders in the whole country. Additionally, it’s at the 8th position globally for the best coders IIT Indore has an extensive alumni base who completed their Master's from top foreign universities like Stanford, Caltech, University of Columbia. Many talented alumni also increase the credibility of the institute by working at reputed firms like Google and Facebook. This year, the CS department recorded 100% placements with the highest and average packages standing at INR 48.5 LPA and INR 30.32 LPA respectively.
