Ans. I am a CSE student at IIT Patna and I will try to justify why choosing IIT Patna for your CSE is a good decision. Don’t base your choice on how old an institution is.  All the new IITs like IIT Patna or IIT Jodhpur are doing exceptionally well, some are even competing against the old IITs. IIT Patna has a great campus and it has achieved tremendous success in a short span of time.  CSE department has a learned and supportive faculty and great seniors. The teams have always performed exceptionally well in the ACM-ICPC and have even made it to the world finals. A good number of students clear the  GSoC( Google Summer of Code).  NJACK club organizes tutorial classes and workshops on Web development, App development, Android, etc. It also organizes competitions like Capture the Flag, NWoC-an open source coding event, and other competitions throughout the year. Other interdisciplinary teams which you can join are ROBOCON, Supra BAJA, HPVC etc.  CSE alums at IIT Patna have made successful startups and others are working in good positions at top MNCs. Overall, the coding culture over here is excellent. The placements for the CSE department are quite impressive. For 2023 placements, the highest package stood at INR 82.05 LPA. The average package stood at INR 35.57 LPA and the median package stood at INR 32.85 LPA. 98.65% of students from the CSE branch were placed. In the end, whether you choose IIT Jodhpur, IIT Mandi, IIT Patna, or any other institution, the choice should be based on your personal preference. However, I would suggest you choose IIT Patna CSE as I am quite satisfied with my choice. Read more

Ans. My friend is a student at IIT Patna and shared his side of the story about city life there. Unlike the general misconception, Patna is rather a safe city.  He visited the city frequently to buy basic things and never did he feel unsafe or comfortable during the 4 years of his stay.  The campus of IIT Patna spreads across a massive 500 acres and is beautifully designed. The campus is still in its development phase but not to the extent that it will hamper your college life experience in any way. Students can be seen roaming around and indulging in sports such as table tennis and cricket.  As for the CS department, IIT Patna is very dynamic and has many clubs that will keep you motivated and interested in the field. I would certainly recommend you to go to IIT Patna and experience the bliss of college life.Read more

Ans. IIT Patna placement 2023 has witnessed a great start with the highest salary standing at INR 82.05 LPA and the average salary standing at INR 29.30 LPA. Students received 72 PPOs and in all 281 offers were made. Some of the Top Recruiters were Amazon, Google, Adobe, etc. Last year, students received 412 offers including 10 international offers. The highest international salary was recorded at INR 1.37 CPA and the highest domestic salary at INR 61.30 LPA. Ques. Which is better: a CSE at new IITs like Patna, Indore or a CSE at DTU?

Ans. My friend was in a similar dilemma last year and chose DTU over IIT Patna. She considers new IITs overhyped and not at par with the IIT standards. Running after the IIT tag is not logical and you should look at the bigger picture. Anaise your career prospects and see if other options fit your prospects or not.  DTU is a great option for CSE considering the excellent exposure and opportunities you will get in Delhi, the capital. The salary packages, the companies, and the profiles offered at DTU are similar to the new IITs if not better.  To make things simpler, here are a few pros and cons of going for a new IIT instead of DTU Pros: The most coveted IIT tag name, helps you get admission to foreign universities and also helps you in off-campus job hunt. IITs have better research opportunities  The academic structure and pedagogy are world-class at IITs Cons: Being in Delhi will groom your overall personality in addition to excellent professional opportunities and exposure.  The new IITs fail to give a vibrant and dynamic college life and are still struggling with infrastructure and basics. DTU, being old, has a vibrant culture with all sorts of fests, cultural and tech activities. Delhi is the hub of coaching institutes for higher education.  DTU has a better brand name established by its successful alumni spread across the globe.  Ultimately it’s your choice whether you want a better campus life or the IIT tag. Read more

Ans. IIT Indore CSE is a well-established branch and the program is rigorous with numerous opportunities. It's the backbone of the institute especially because of the rich coding culture it promotes. Here are a few pros and cons to make you understand the program better Pros: IIT Indore CSE has highly qualified faculty that are amongst the most experienced in India.  The institute is well known for its rich coding culture and the ACM ICPC achievements are a source of motivation for many.  Being a part of the IT family, it definitely does well in the infrastructure aspect.  IIT Indore provides excellent opportunities to its students and many are able to make it into Ivy League Universities. IIT Indore provides excellent undergraduate research opportunities and has many foreign collaborations. IIT Indore CSE placements are great and during 2022 placements the CSE branch managed to secure 100% placements with the highest CTC of BTech at INR 48.5 LPA and the average at INR 30.32 LPA Cons: IIT Indore has a small batch size meaning you have fewer geniuses around you. Ans. IIT Indore is one of the leading new IITs that has made its name because of its multiple achievements. Here is exactly why you should give more preference to IIT Indore than IIT Patna.  The faculties are very approachable and cooperative. They guide you to do projects and even motivate you for research work. Additionally, they teach you tactics to clear GRE and GATE for top universities and PSU respectively. Such kind of guidance isn’t available at every institute. The faculty-to-student ratio is great around 12 - 13 faculties for 40 students. This helps the students to get individual attention from faculty who track the personal and individual growth of every student.  IIT Indore has ties with the University of Stuttgart, Germany enabling students to do internships in the second year.  The students' demands are given due importance and the HODs bring all necessary changes demanded by the students to make things easy.  IIT Indore being new has top-notch labs with all modern equipment and instruments. Ans. In general, it is better to choose the branch of your choice. Given below are a few trade-offs of the two choices given on the question which may help you in making the decision.  MEMS - IIT Indore: Administration: IIT Indore belongs to the 2008-09 batch of IITs. Although it can’t be compared with older IITs but it has made remarkable progress in this short span of time. The administration and departments are well-settled. Extra-curricular at the institute are also developing with time. In 4-5 years, the institute is expected to have a great future. Course: BTech MEMS at IIT Indore is fairly new and the duration of the existence of the course is the same as the B Tech Electrical course at IIT Bhilai. However, the MEMS department has been functioning for a while at IIT Indore. As a department it has experience. The faculties are great.  Placements: MEMS has a lower placement rate as compared to other core branches of engineering. Metallurgy and Material Science is a niche field of study and the degree outcome is more research-oriented.  Change of Branch: However, you can change your branch to Electrical or Mechanical from MEMES at IIT I, if you work hard in your 1st year. Changing to CS is always difficult because of the competition. Electrical at IIT Bhilai: Facilities: IIT Bhilai was established back in 2016. It is only 4 years old. Electrical is a core Engineering discipline with better career prospects. But the disadvantage of this choice is the institute. You will have a few seniors in your branch and temporary faculties. Extracurricular: You will have good opportunities to start events, clubs, in the institute. On the other hand, the future at this institute is a bit uncertain. Campus Life: The institute also does not have a proper campus. You will not have a proper campus life for the next 4 years.  The table below shows a brief overview of the two institutes. Particulars IIT Indore IIT Bhilai Average CTC 17 LPA 11.22 LPA Seats 53 54 Fees INR 9.15 Lakh INR 4.90 Lakh One of my friends had an option between Mechanical at IIT Indore and CS at a new IIT. He chose Mechanical at IIT Indore. Judging by his experience it is safe to say that he made the right decision at least for 2-3 more years.  The choice is up to you if you would rather trade off on the branch or on the institution. If you are confident you can secure a good future from the limited opportunities a new IIT can offer, you should go for it.Read more

Ans. My brother was in a similar dilemma last year when he had to choose between MnC IIT Guwahati and CSE IIT Indore. Eventually, he went for IIT Indore CSE. The main reason he decided against going for the MnC program was his lack of interest in Math. And when we talk about Math at IIT, trust me when I say it’s at another level. It’s purely proof-based and high-level Math that can be handled only by true Math lovers. The academic workload is also high with 60% Math and 40% CS courses. Now, here are a few points that might convince you to join IIT Indore instead IIT Indore qualified for ACM-ICPC World Finals thrice. This in itself is quite an achievement considering this event's importance. As per HackerRank, IIT Indore is said to have the best coders in the whole country. Additionally, it’s at the 8th position globally for the best coders IIT Indore has an extensive alumni base who completed their Master's from top foreign universities like Stanford, Caltech, University of Columbia. Many talented alumni also increase the credibility of the institute by working at reputed firms like Google and Facebook. This year, the CS department recorded 100% placements with the highest and average packages standing at INR 48.5 LPA and INR 30.32 LPA respectively.
