14 May 2025: Fall application deadline at University of Maryland Baltimore has been extended to May 19, 2025 from May 1, 2025. The Spring application deadline is on October 1, 2025. The same application deadline is applicable for International Engineering Management Students as well. Check Courses & Fees

The University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) is a public research university that started in 1966. It's ranked 144th among national universities by U.S. News & World Report for 2025. UMBC has an acceptance rate of about 74% for international students. It offers strong programs in areas like computer science, engineering, and information systems & Management. International students pay a fee of $125 (around 10,906 INR) each semester or session. According to a 2023 report, more than 90% of graduates found jobs within six months of graduation. On average, master's degree holders earn over $85,000, while undergraduates earn over $60,000.

Here’s what students say about their experience at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMCB):

Manisha Preethi saysUMBC has an amazing Health IT program with experienced faculty and strong research opportunities. The campus is beautiful, well-equipped, and has a diverse student community. The only downside? Balancing coursework and a part-time job is tough, and parking is expensive. But overall, it's a great place for anyone in IT or healthcare!"

Batch: 2022

Course: Masters of Professional Studies in Health Information Technology

Gurpreet Kaur Saluja says "UMBC is super diverse, and the professors are really supportive. There are lots of research opportunities, and most grad students get on-campus jobs by their second semester. The only downside is no direct industry recruitment, so networking is key. Also, nearby housing is cheaper but not the best quality."

Batch: 2023

Course: Masters in Health Information Technology

Sanjana from Batch of 2022 says "Great value for money, with decent research and an active Indian student community. The free pizza at events is a bonus! The downside? The campus is small, on-campus jobs are competitive, and there aren't many nearby tech companies hiring F1 students. But overall, it's a solid pick for CS students looking for affordable education."

Batch: 2022

Course: M.S. Information Systems

Campus Life

  • UMBC has two campuses, and the other one is called Shady Grove.
  • The main campus has a large library and a great gym called the RAC (Recreation Activity Center) with facilities for tennis, swimming, and basketball. Most sports matches are held at the Chesapeake Arena.
  • We also have RIH(retriever integrated health), which provides medical services and mental health counseling.

Fees

  • I am paying around $14500 every semester, the total would be around $14500 for 3 semesters and $5700 for last semester. So around $49500, I have around $600 for monthly expenses depending on if you are living single or sharing.
  • It includes the grocery and everything. So around 400-450$ for rent and rest for grocery. I pay 100$ for transportation to my college which is included in the fees, other than that I don't pay much and the college is within walking distance.

Overview

It has only been close to a month since I have been here but up to now I like it a lot, the people and the faculty are really amazing the only drawback is the lack of social events to meet new people. The main contributing factor for me to choose this university is because of the program and the supporting faculty, I really liked the program structure as well as the classes offered.

Campus Life

The library, campus WiFi and sports facilities are up to the mark at UMBC as they have been recently renovated, sports facilities include an indoor gym, swimming pool, basketball court, badminton court, mini football court, volleyball court and a running track. The outdoor facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, lacrose field.
