Course Curriculum

10

  • Level of difficulty based on how we grasp the concept. It’s mixed of both practical and theoretical they explain in class and give us assignments and projects to work on
  • Positive thing is they can help us clearing out the doubts we get through assignments and negative thing is being a new level of program it’s bit hard to understand soon enough
  • On average our class is 30
  • Around 120 Indian students are enrolled in my course for Fall 2022 intake

Admission Experience

  • I applied to 3 universities: DePaul University, University of New Haven, university of Baltimore county.
    - I got confirmed admission letter from all universities
    - No rejected universities
    - But I chose university of Baltimore county as it has perfect curriculum for my health information technology course offering a great mix of healthcare and technology, plus strong opportunities for internships and jobs in Maryland’s healthcare hubs.

  • I chose UMBC because the Health IT program add the healthcare and technology both together.
-Maryland's healthcare industry offered great opportunities for internships and jobs after graduation.

  • The application process was transparent. I applied with my IELTS score and later had an interview with the Visa officer to discuss my background and interest in Health IT.
-I also needed to prove my English proficiency through IELTS.

  • I applied for Fall 2022 intake and factors like strong academic curriculum, diversity of culture, more career opportunities and east coast place influenced my decision
    - It took four months starting from the application to the program. Where it took one month to get admit letter and one to one and half month to get I20 and and one month for visa process

Faculty

10

  •  Faculty to student ration would be depending on classes few classes have 25 students and few classes have up to 50 students
  • Teaching methodology is great and they are well experienced in their fields. They really help to secure job and also do refer us for few companies
  • The most admiring thing that makes them stand out is patience level and referring us to the companies

Campus Life

10

  • My college has 2 campuses one in Catonsville and one more in college park
  • My campus have library. Activity center for sports, fitness, pool, basketball court, volleyball court, tennis court, badminton court. Gym, Zumba classes. They also have medical and emergency services
  • Major events like orientation for new students, bonfire event, fairgrounds, Diwali, Ganesh chaturthi, holi, thanksgiving events
  • Extracurricular activities like sports even. Matches, traditional events and Indian students organization called EKTA community

Part Time Jobs

  • About 10 in 50 students secures teacher assistant, graduate assistant, research assistant positions
  • Pay would be interns of giving extra credit and decreasing one credit payment per semester
  • On campus jobs are available in cafeteria, Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, halal foods, sky and pay would be $15 per hour
  • Maximum of 20 hours per week
  • It is kind of difficult to secure on campus job because of many students are applying for and my university created more jobs for students like in management and cultural committees
  • Students can earn around $14 per hour in their part time jobs. And it’s is kind off easy to work parttime along with studies as we got only 3-4 days of classes which is around 4 hrs on each day and rest of the days can work in parttime. Handshake is the app where to apply for parttime jobs where the openings will open every month and also it’s recommended to approach seniors or head of the community to get a referral

Placement

10

  • Around 40% of the people secure a job in 6 months of completion of course.
  • Average salary would be $45,000 per annum as a fresher. It increases depending upon experience.
  • Students would find jobs on platforms like LinkedIn, handshake, monster, indeed, referrals,
  • My batch mates got placed at companies like optum, Meritus health, aspen dental, John Hopkins, J.P. Morgan, Celsius, Amazon, datavant
  • Companies like aspen, Amazon, J.P. Morgan, optum takes the graduates

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • I found accommodation through my college social media groups like whatsapp, telegram, instagram, facebook
  • My monthly rent is $1500 which was shared by 4 people. So it would be $320 per person excluding WiFi and electricity which costs around $50
  • Challenges like calculating the distance from my house to university was big difficult as I’m new to this state
  • My recommendation would be search for instagram or telegram accounts of the university international students
  • My accommodation was 3 miles from my university or 8kms from my university

Exams

  •  Language proficiency tests like IELTS and Duolingo are required where IELTS band above 7 is required and Duolingo score of 135 is required

  • Along with these we should have Statement of purpose which explains our academic and professional background relationship with the majors, 2 LORs and CV are required
  • There was no interview process for admission

  • On top of that, I spent about $200-$300 on groceries and $100-$150 on utilities and internet, bringing my monthly expenses to around $1,250-$1,800

Scholarship

  • Yes I received scholarship in the name of international graduate scholarship
  • I received a $1,000 scholarship, which helped with the overall cost of tuition
  • Am not sure how many students but atleast 7 out of 10 students got the scholarship
  • And I heard that they offer many other scholarship programs which we qualify for and also Indian government do give scholarships for international students
