University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) Rankings 2025

• Right now the job market is terrible so i cant give you the exact percentage of people finding jobs. The average salary for a Data Analyst or Business Analyst is above $70,000 annually. Most of the students find jobs on portals like LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor.

• Through whatsapp or facebook groups, I was able to connect with like minded people who were looking for accommodation.
• People can also look on websites like apartments.com or zillow to find the best suited apartment for them.
• The average rent for entire 2bhk apartment will be 1300-1400 usd

• Around 40% of the people secure a job in 6 months of completion of course.
• Average salary would be $45,000 per annum as a fresher. It increases depending upon experience.

• My batch mates got placed at companies like optum, Meritus health, aspen dental, John Hopkins, J.P. Morgan, Celsius, Amazon, datavant

• I found accommodation through my college social media groups like whatsapp, telegram, instagram, facebook
• My monthly rent is $1500 which was shared by 4 people. So it would be $320 per person excluding WiFi and electricity which costs around $50
• Challenges like calculating the distance from my house to university was big difficult as I’m new to this state
• My recommendation would be search for instagram or telegram accounts of the university international students
• My accommodation was 3 miles from my university or 8kms from my university

• I would say 40% got a job directly after graduation, rest are still looking for opportunities, It depends on the amount of application you are applying online.

• I live off-campus, as most graduate students do because it’s more affordable and a great way to connect with other graduates.
• My monthly rent is around $400-450. There are plenty of housing options, but the better ones are farther from campus. Nearby housing often has issues with pests and rodents. And also it's difficult to find accommodation nearby.
• There are some Indian groups on Facebook called EKTA for housing updates at UMBC. And also WhatsApp group but it is available only after admission.

• Full time job completely depends on us. All job applications are online so it is not much dependent on the university of the location if we are willing to relocate.

• Career fair at UMBC is really helpful in getting internship and job opportunities. I got mine through career fair and some of my friends got internships in the same way.

• I opted for off campus housing as we have control over the expenses for wifi and electricity. We can share a room with another roommate that reduces rent per head.
• Monthly rent - 300$ included dishwasher, laundry, stove, oven (not microwave oven)
• Challenges - lot of students like to stay close to the university so finding an accommodation near the university is extremely competitive.
  My accommodation was 10 min walk away from the university called Westland gardens. That's where most of the UMBC indians students stay.

In my university, especially in the field of computer science most of my seniors are getting jobs in good multinational companies. The average package would be around 90k$. There is a good scope for employment.

University of Maryland, Baltimore County is known for its research in the field of computer science and the admission process is easy. I submitted an online application in computer science and took my English proficiency test and GRE to get admitted to UMBC.

University abroad do not offer placements like we have back in India. We have career fairs where companies visit and students need to come up with a resume and meet companies, introduce themselves briefly, enquire about the opportunities, drop resumes.

My experience here was good, I would recommend students to join UMBC for Under Graduation or Graduation.

The career fair is mostly for US citizens. For immigrants, it is like do your own search. Career Center helps with resume review, Interview process.

It has been a great and smooth experience. Everyone around is helpful. It is just the area that is not too great.

The research opportunities for cybersecurity for international student is not possible in almost all universities across the states as it is related to security and most security research programs are federal related hence mostly require a us citizenship or green card, But research opportunities in other courses are plenty. As for average post-study placement at UMBC 80% of its grad students have been placed, and earn in the bracket of around 60k-105k USD.

It has only been close to a month since I have been here but up to now I like it a lot, the people and the faculty are really amazing the only drawback is the lack of social events to meet new people. The main contributing factor for me to choose this university is because of the program and the supporting faculty, I really liked the program structure as well as the classes offered.
