The University of Bridgeport is a private non-profit institution founded in 1927 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, an hour’s train ride north of New York City. It is ranked #395-434 in National Universities and #166 in Top Performers on Social Mobility as per US News Best Colleges 2026, and enrols students from more than 80 countries across its 56-acre coastal campus.

UB Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Indian applicants need academic transcripts, an English-proficiency score and proof of funding, with no application fee and no GRE mandate for most programmes.

PG Requirements

  • Academic: Three-year or four-year bachelor’s from a recognised Indian university with 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended); three-year Indian degrees accepted from NAAC A-rated institutions for MBA and most master’s.
  • English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 80 or IELTS 6.5 for direct admission, as per the official UB International FAQ; MS/Ed.D in Education requires TOEFL iBT 80. PTE and Duolingo listed as accepted with minimum scores not published, verify at bridgeport.edu.
  • Credential verification: WES ICAP course-by-course evaluation recommended for Indian mark-sheets; upload advance copy with the application.
  • Documents: Two English-language recommendation letters, 250-500 word personal statement, resume, passport copy and bank statement showing one year of funding.

UG Requirements

  • Academic: Class 12 from CBSE, ISC or a State Board with 70% to 85% (recommended); notarised copies of all senior-secondary transcripts and Class 12 exam results required.
  • English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 75 or IELTS 6.0 for direct admission; a 400 in the SAT Critical Reading section is also accepted.
  • Conditional route: Applicants below the score minimums can enrol in UB’s English Language Institute, then transition into the academic programme after clearing the ELI level.

Key insight: A TOEFL or IELTS score is compulsory to be considered for any UB academic merit scholarship, so Indian applicants relying on the ELI conditional pathway forfeit the USD 5,000 to USD 20,000 automatic awards unless they retake the test.

University of Bridgeport Acceptance Rate 2027

The University of Bridgeport reports an overall acceptance rate near 82% (estimated), one of the higher rates among Connecticut private universities, reflecting the institution’s test-optional and access-first admissions posture. The rate is derived from third-party datasets and directional in nature.

YearAcceptance RateTrend
202682% (estimated)Stable
202582% (estimated)Stable

Indian applicants meeting the 55% bachelor’s or 70% Class 12 threshold and the English test minimums typically receive an offer within 3 to 5 weeks. UB does not require the GRE for most master’s programmes, which further lifts the effective offer rate for Indian STEM applicants.

Reality check: A high acceptance rate should not be read as guaranteed entry, because visa officers at Mumbai and Delhi still evaluate financial-proof strength, academic gap and intended programme fit before issuing an F-1.

University of Bridgeport Campus, Facilities and Student Life

The University of Bridgeport’s 56-acre campus stretches along Seaside Park on Long Island Sound, with the Metro-North station a short walk away and Manhattan reachable in 75 minutes.

  • Location and transport: Coastal Bridgeport, Fairfield County; Metro-North New Haven Line direct to Grand Central; New York’s JFK and LaGuardia airports under two hours by rail and bus.
  • Housing: Seven residence halls including Bodine (USD 7,000 per year) and Marina Village apartments (USD 13,000 per year); on-campus housing is guaranteed to first-year and international applicants who apply before the intake deadline.

  • Indian community: Roughly 20% international enrolment across 80+ nationalities, with an active Indian Students Association organising Diwali and Republic Day events and 4 dining facilities offering vegetarian and halal options.

What Indian students say: Bridgeport’s proximity to New York City is the biggest draw for internship hunts in finance and tech, while the University District immediately surrounding campus can feel quiet after 9pm, and using the campus shuttle or ride-share for late-night grocery runs is the accepted norm.

US News also lists UB’s Computer Science programme at #202 out of 210 globally, and QS US University Rankings 2025 places the institution in the #201-250 band.

Key insight: The Social Mobility rank matters for Indian applicants because it signals that UB channels graduates from lower-income backgrounds into stable employment, which loan providers like Prodigy and MPOWER read as a positive default-risk signal.

University of Bridgeport Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

The University of Bridgeport supports graduate placement through the Career Development Center, and US News reports a median starting salary of USD 52,000 for graduates.

  • Median starting salary (US News): USD 52,000 (INR 49.6 lakh) — labeled market median across UB alumni.
  • MS Computer Science / STEM salaries: USD 70,000 to USD 95,000 in the tri-state area, per market data; individual outcomes not officially disclosed.
  • MBA median post-MBA salary: Not disclosed by UB; regional Connecticut MBA benchmark sits near USD 65,000 (INR 62 lakh) as market median.
  • Recruiting sectors: Healthcare systems, engineering consultancies, financial services and technology firms operating across the New York-Connecticut corridor; specific recruiter lists not officially published.
  • OPT and STEM extension: F-1 graduates from STEM-designated MS programmes qualify for 12 months of OPT plus a 24-month STEM extension for up to 36 months of post-study work.
  • Careers support: The Career Development Center runs resume clinics, mock interviews, on-campus recruitment fairs and a graduate mentorship programme.

Insider note: Bridgeport graduates lean on the Metro-North commuter line to interview in Manhattan and Stamford, which is why finance and consulting internships remain a realistic outcome despite the university sitting outside the New York City limits.

University of Bridgeport vs Peer Universities

The peer set below compares UB against three Connecticut private universities and one out-of-state STEM peer, using QS 2027 world rank, Collegedunia Study Abroad 2026 rank and total annual PG fee.

UB stands out on cost-adjusted access, pairing 82% acceptance with a fee waiver and automatic USD 10,000 to USD 20,000 UG scholarships. For an Indian applicant who values a Connecticut base with New York recruiting reach, UB is a cost-lean route into the tri-state job market.

The University of Bridgeport suits Indian applicants with a bachelor’s above 55% or Class 12 above 70% who prioritise STEM-eligible OPT, near-NYC location and total tuition under USD 35,000, and whose median-salary target of USD 52,000 to USD 70,000 aligns with an ROI payback inside four years. Its STEM MS portfolio, five automatic UG scholarships and fee-waived application make it a pragmatic destination for Indian students without a top-50 profile.

The University of Bridgeport is not the right pick for applicants targeting T1 employers who filter by QS Top 200 or National Universities Top 100 ranks, or those set on immediate Silicon Valley placement. Applicants with those goals should compare with Stevens Institute of Technology for a similarly-priced but higher-ranked STEM alternative near New York.

University of Bridgeport FAQs

Ques. Does the University of Bridgeport accept a 3-year Indian bachelor’s degree for its MBA?

Ans. Yes, the University of Bridgeport accepts three-year Indian bachelor’s degrees for MBA admission when the awarding institution holds a NAAC ’A’ rating, as stated on the official UB international graduate requirements page. Applicants from three-year degree institutions without NAAC ’A’ status usually need a one-year PG diploma or a completed master’s before UB will consider the application, so verify your institution’s NAAC status early.

Ques. What is the UB application fee for Indian international applicants?

Ans. The University of Bridgeport waives the application fee for all international students at both undergraduate and graduate level, as stated on the official UB international admissions page. Indian applicants therefore pay zero to submit a complete application, which makes UB a low-risk backup or primary choice while awaiting responses from more selective universities. The waiver applies to every intake with no separate promo code required.

Ques. Is the GRE required for MS admission at the University of Bridgeport?

Ans. The GRE is not required for most master’s programmes at UB, though requirements vary by school and specific engineering or science programmes may still request scores. The Trefz School of Business does not require the GMAT for MBA admission. Indian applicants should confirm their target programme’s GRE stance on the UB international graduate requirements page before deciding whether to sit the test.

Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at UB?

Ans. F-1 visa holders at the University of Bridgeport can work on-campus up to 20 hours per week during semesters and full-time during official breaks, under standard USCIS rules. Off-campus employment is limited to Curricular Practical Training tied to the academic programme or Optional Practical Training after completing one academic year. Common on-campus roles include library assistant, dining services and graduate teaching assistant positions.

Ques. Which Indian education loan providers recognise the University of Bridgeport?

Ans. The University of Bridgeport is recognised by major Indian and international student-loan providers, including SBI, HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo, Prodigy Finance and MPOWER Financing. Most lenders sanction up to INR 60 lakh for a UB master’s programme, with Prodigy and MPOWER offering non-cosigner loans in USD at variable rates. Applicants should share their I-20 with the lender to unlock the visa-timed disbursement schedule.

Ques. Can I get a conditional offer from UB without a TOEFL or IELTS score?

Ans. Yes, applicants who do not meet the TOEFL 80 or IELTS 6.5 minimum can receive a conditional offer to enrol in UB’s English Language Institute, then transition into the academic programme upon completing the required ELI level. Conditional applicants forfeit the automatic academic merit scholarships until a qualifying test score is submitted, so retaking the test remains the better financial route for most Indian applicants.

Ques. How long does OPT and STEM extension last for UB graduates?

Ans. Indian graduates from a STEM-designated master’s programme at the University of Bridgeport, such as MS Computer Science, MS Data Analytics or MS Engineering, qualify for 12 months of Optional Practical Training plus a 24-month STEM extension, totalling 36 months of legal US work authorisation post-study. Non-STEM MBA graduates receive the standard 12 months of OPT, subject to E-Verify employer participation for the STEM extension.

Ques. Is on-campus housing guaranteed to Indian international students at UB?

Ans. The University of Bridgeport prioritises on-campus housing for first-year international undergraduates and offers space to graduate students on a first-come basis, with Bodine Hall doubles at USD 7,000 per year and Marina Village apartments at USD 13,000 per year. Indian applicants should complete the housing application within two weeks of receiving the I-20 to lock in the preferred residence hall, as apartment-style units fill fastest for the Fall intake.

  • We had a lot of campus events that happened daily, at least one event. There is corq app where we can find all the event details that are happening daily. It includes all the details, including location and timings. In campus there are several clubs that conduct many events. Out of all the clubs, my favourite is the SPB (Student Programming Board). They conduct exciting events in the campus

Overview

Swimming in college and studying my dream carriers of industrial and graphic design came together perfectly here with incredible financial aid. Our campus is only a 1.5 hr train ride to New York City which is a huge plus.

Fees

Fees are not big for the events nor are there any charges. There are not many events occurring on our campus.
