Candidate seeking admission to the Ph.D program must fulfill the following admission criteria:

• M.E/M.Pharm./MBA/ M.Phil of BITS or its equivalent with a minimum of 60% aggregate.
• Candidate with an M Sc/B.E/ B.Pharma or an equivalent with a minimum of 60% will also be considered for provisional admission to the Ph D programme.
• For Ph D programme in languages and humanities, candidates with an M.Phil/M A and with minimum of 55% aggregate may also be considered. Such candidates have to undergo a minimum of two semester course work prescribed by DRC.
• For part-time applicants, a minimum of one year experience in the related field of study is required.

The institute offers a Ph.D. program in full-time and part-time modes. A master’s degree in the relevant discipline with at least 60% marks in aggregate is the minimum eligibility criteria for admission. Candidates are selected based on the merit in the Departmental Entrance Test and Interview.

Admission under Ph.D. Aspirant Scheme: Industries and R & D Organizations collaborating with BITS can sponsor candidates for the Ph.D. program under this scheme.

CSIR-UGC NET/ DBT-JRF/ UGC NET-JRF Scholarship holders and GATE-qualified students are also eligible to take admission to the Ph.D. program and will be exempted from taking the Departmental test.

Key Points:

• M.Phil is a four-semester course with 3 semesters of coursework followed by a dissertation in the final semester. The candidates must have one year of work experience to stand eligible for admission in this course.
• Candidates admitted to Ph.D. full-time program are eligible for a stipend of INR 34,000 – 37,000 per month.
• Ph.D. Management Admission Test is a Written Case Analysis for the duration of one hour.
• Students seeking admission to Ph.D. (Chemical Engineering) need to take an Objective Written Test for the duration of two hours.

Admission Test for Ph.D. in (Biological Science/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Physics): 

Students have to qualify in two tests. The test I is common for all disciplines and Test II is subject-specific.

Test I consists of 30 MCQs pertaining to General Science, Quantitative Aptitude and Research Aptitude. Each correct will fetch two marks a wrong answer results in the deduction of 0.5 marks. 

Test II consists of 70 subject-related MCQs. Each correct will fetch two marks a wrong answer results in the deduction of 0.5 marks.

Admission Test for Ph.D. in (Languages/ Humanities/ Economics): Students have to qualify in two tests. The test I is common for all disciplines and Test II is subject-specific.

Note: The test will consist of 60 subject-specific questions.
