NIT Mizoram PhD Eligibility Criteria
If an applicant meets the qualifying requirements listed below, NIT Mizoram will accept them into the college. The minimum qualification criteria are given below:
For PhD in Engineering:
- Master’s Degree in the area of Engineering/Technology (ME/MTech/MSc etc) from the Engineering/Technology department of a Recognized University/ Institute with a minimum CGPA of 6.5 on 10 point scale or 60% of marks in the qualifying examinations. (GATE/NET not required)
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology in a relevant area with a minimum CGPA of 7.5 or 70% of marks and with a valid GATE score. The requirement of a valid GATE score shall apply to only those who seek admission under the Full-time Category.
- 3rd Year BTech students from NIT Mizoram on completion of their 3rd year (6th semester) with CGPA 8.0 and above are eligible for admission to a Ph.D. program in the Regular Category. The candidates will be waived from the requirement of GATE/NET and will be provided Institute Fellowship as Full-time Regular Category students for 5 years for completion of their PhD. Also, a submission of a high-level research proposal in the proposed research area is required in line with the research area of the concerned Supervisor.
PhD in Science (Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics):
- Master’s degree in the area of Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics from a recognized University/ Institute with a minimum CGPA of 6.5 on 10 10-point scale or 60% of marks in the qualifying examinations. (GATE/NET not required)
PhD in HSS (Economics/English):
- Master’s degree in Economics/English from a recognized University/ Institute with a minimum CGPA of 6.0 on 10 10-point scale or 55 % marks in the qualifying examinations. (GATE/NET not required)
Note:
- For SC/ST candidates, there is a relaxation of 0.5 CGPA or 50% of marks.
- Conversion from CGPA to percentage or vice-versa shall not be allowed.

Admission Procedure
- Admission to the Ph.D. program of the Institute normally takes place in January/July sessions every year.

NIT Mizoram PhD Course Curriculum
Course Curriculum:
- A student of the Engineering/Technology/Science/Humanities & Social Sciences Department with an entry-level qualification of a two-year master’s degree registers for a minimum of 4 (four) courses amounting to at least 24 credits and has to obtain a CGPA of at least 6.5 on a 10 point scale.
- A student is expected to complete all coursework requirements within two semesters by registering for at least two courses in the first semester. In each semester, the CGPA should not be less than 6.0 on 10-point scale.
- After successful completion of the Synopsis Seminar, the students are required to submit their thesis.
- Within three months of the acceptance of the synopsis by the DC, the students have to submit five (or six, if there are two supervisors) copies of/her thesis in the prescribed format to the Academic Section along with a soft copy of the thesis.

Ques. What is the course curriculum for NIT Mizoram Ph.D. in Mathematics?
Ans. The course degree of Ph.D. in Mathematics is a vast course. The students have to complete 4 semesters. The students have to complete all the theoretical requirements in the first semester and for oral examinations and research work for the remaining part, after the respective semester, students have to submit the thesis with their DC.
