NIT Puducherry: Admission 2026, Fees, Courses, Cutoff, Ranking, Placement

The answer to this question depends on your personal preferences and expectations from your college-to-be.

If you prioritize infrastructure, NIT Srinagar has one of the most beautiful campuses among all the NITs. On the other hand, NIT Puducherry has a better faculty than all your other options. 

Placement-wise, NIT Raipur has the best record among these colleges. However, the infrastructure and faculty of NIT Raipur are below average. But it is a good college for its sports facilities and senior-junior connections. There aren't any cases of ragging on its campus. Also, it offers better connectivity than the other NITs you’ve mentioned. 

As for the northeastern NITs that you have mentioned, most people don’t choose them. This is because of lesser connectivity and a lack of overall facilities at them. Their placements aren’t at par with the other NITs. Also, you’ll experience totally different weather and culture over there. So you might face difficulties in adjusting. 

Now the choice will also depend upon the branch you are offered at NIT Raipur, NIT Srinagar, and NIT Puducherry. If say, you are offered Biotech or Biomed at NIT Raipur and Civil at NIT Srinagar, without a doubt, go for the second option. Biotech and Biomed at NIT Raipur aren’t good choices.

Since you did not specify the criteria, I will be comparing the aforementioned institutes on the basis of 2 main criteria placements and campus life. 

• In terms of placements, the preference order should be NIT Patna > NIT Puducherry > NIT AP. 

NIT Patna has a well-maintained campus and enjoys a good reputation being one of the oldest engineering colleges in India. However, the academic rigor is poor and the professors aren't interested in teaching. Moreover, it suffers a lot because of its location in Bihar one of the most underdeveloped cities in India. 

• In terms of campus life and location, NIT Puducherry > NIT Patna> NIT AP. 

NIT Puducherry has the best location among these institutes. It is located near the sea beach and students get to enjoy the picturesque view of The Bay of Bengal.

NIT Andhra Pradesh should be your last priority because it has many major cons like lack of campus, ragging, and poor placement scenario.

When it comes to pursuing BTech/BE, the brand of the college you choose can make a significant difference in your career prospects. Based on my experience, I would recommend considering NIT Durgapur over NIT Puducherry. Here are some reasons why:

• Established Reputation: NIT Durgapur has been around for several decades and has established itself as one of the top engineering colleges in the country. On the other hand, NIT Puducherry is a relatively new addition to the National Institute of Technology family.
• Strong Alumni Network: Being an older institution, NIT Durgapur has a large and active alumni network. This can be a valuable resource for you in terms of networking, mentorship, and job opportunities.
• Better Placements: NIT Durgapur has a better track record when it comes to placements, with many top companies visiting the campus every year for recruitment. This is not to say that NIT Puducherry has poor placements, but NIT Durgapur is a safer bet in terms of securing a good job after graduation.
• Research Opportunities: NIT Durgapur has a strong focus on research and innovation, with several research projects and collaborations with industry partners. This can provide you with opportunities to work on cutting-edge projects and gain valuable experience.
• Infrastructure: NIT Durgapur boasts of a modern and well-equipped campus with state-of-the-art facilities like a central library, auditoriums, laboratories, and sports facilities. NIT Puducherry, being a newer institution, may not have the same level of infrastructure and facilities.

Overall, while both NIT Durgapur and NIT Puducherry are good colleges, choosing the former could provide you with better career prospects and opportunities.

IIITDM Kancheepuram Mechanical is better in comparison. The department has four branches under the norms of Design and Manufacturing. The academics are practical-oriented. IIITDM follows an updated curriculum that is different from the traditional course structure of most engineering colleges. The Mechanical faculties are great. Most of them have PhDs qualifications from reputed IITs and NITs. 

IIITDM Kancheepuram placements are good for Mechanical. Students of the branch get recruited as Project leads, Supervisors,  Design Operators, etc. The average CTC for the branch is around INR 7 LPA.

NIT Puducherry is very new compared to College of Engineering Guindy (CEG). Let me share some points which might help you decide.

• CEG is very old and experienced as an educational institution. It has well-established CSE and ECE departments with exceptional and updated lab facilities.
• The syllabus is more or less similar in both colleges.
• CEG has a more competitive student crowd which eventually helps students to boost their morale. 
• Due to its years of educational experience, CEG definitely has a better placement record than NIT Puducherry.

It is recommended that you go for CEG if you have to choose between these two. But if your choice only is NIT Puducherry then you can opt for it. It is a good college but as it started functioning recently, it is better to go for an experienced one.

Choose BITS Hyderabad over NIT Raipur or NIT Puducherry. Here are some of the reasons for choosing this institute:

• They offer a beautiful campus with an enthusiastic student crowd.
• BITS Hyderabad has updated modern machinery and lab facilities.
• The placements definitely differ between the BITS and NITs.
• NIT Raipur is very old-fashioned in its approach towards studying and learning.
• Their faculties teaching method is old and prefers their students mugging up notes rather than learning and understanding something.
• BITS, unlike NIT Raipur, their teaching method is industry-oriented.

You might think that going for a dual degree is better as IT companies only prefer CSE graduates. But nowadays this notion has changed as with big data and analytics creating a boom, more and more such companies visiting campuses and hiring people from all branches.

Therefore it is suggested that you go for BITS Hyderabad, where you will grow and learn in a much more competitive environment. Your vision will be broadened.

One of my friends studied at College of Engineering Guindy (CEG). According to him, it is a good institution, CSE being the highlighted department. Let me share the details I got to know from him.

• CSE students are very much dedicated to their projects and assignments.
• The faculty members are also very cooperative and highly experienced in their respective fields.
• CSE always had and maintained a good placement record.
• The campus itself is very huge, providing an appropriate place for students to study.
• There are active clubs and international techno-management Fest 'Kurukshetra' and cultural fest 'Techofes'. 
• They also have a club for quizzes, Industrial quality maintenance, social activities, photography, college magazine, all of which are active throughout the year.

Therefore, after considering everything I think it will be better to join CEG, as it will develop you to achieve success in anything.
