Admission to the National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) is determined by the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), a highly competitive exam with about 50,000 participants, where only the top 200 gain entry to top law schools. Admission is based solely on CLAT scores, with no interview. Candidates must submit a refundable deposit of Rs. 50,000 upon securing an eligible rank. The faculty is highly esteemed, using the Socratic method and encouraging active participation and research.
Many faculty members are alumni of prestigious institutions like Berkeley and Oxford, contributing to a student-faculty ratio of 50:1. The annual fee ranges from INR 2.2 to 2.8 lakh, including hostel and mess fees, with the 2018 batch paying INR 2.2 lakh and the 2021 batch INR 2.8 lakh. Despite high costs, scholarships are available, such as the Aditya Birla Scholarship and various merit-based and need-based options. NUJS’s placement record is excellent, with nearly 100% securing jobs, predominantly in top law firms like L&L Partners and Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, with starting salaries over 15 lakhs per annum for about 60% of students.
The average graduate salary ranges from 9-10 lakhs per annum. Prestigious opportunities include judicial services and scholarships like Rhodes and Chevening. The Campus Recruitment Committee efficiently manages placements, often securing offers by the fourth year. Internships offer stipends up to 60,000 for three months. Scholarships support students based on merit and financial need, with special programs for SC/ST and IDIA scholars. The average annual cost, including food and accommodation, is approximately INR 3 lakhs, with limited campus employment opportunities available from the 5th year.
