Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course structure at NUJS is tough but fair. Every semester there are six subjects to be evaluated. Certain legal papers are tough considering their complexity, however, they are aptly balanced by papers of Social Sciences such as Sociology and Political science which are interesting to understand. Beyond that, every subject also has research projects, class presentations or mid semester exams apart from a dedicated end semester exam.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

There is a dedicated RPC, which is student elected that approaches law chambers and firms for internships. Beyond that, the stipends of such internships vary from 5000 to 20000. Further, the students can always independently approach any organisation for internships.

Placement Experience

4.5

NUJS boasts near 100% placements, there is a dedicated Campus Recruitment Committee which has elected student members as well as a Faculty Co-ordinator. Some students get PPOs and therefore they do not sit for Day Zero. Tier 1 and Tier 2 law firms as well as Mncs hire with packages ranging around 14-20 lpa.

Fees and Financial Aid

There is Aditya Birla scholarship for the top performing candidates, apart from that, NUJS has a merit cum means scholarship as well as various State government aided scholarships, particularly for women. The average annual cost of the University, including food and accommodation is around 3lakhs per year. There are no campus employment opportunities as such, until the 5th year of the course, where students can become teaching assistants subject to eligibility.

Campus Life

4

A lot of activities happen, there is INVICTA, OUTLAWED, as well as moot, debate and ADR internals. Beyond this there are regular seminars conferences and lectures of notable luminaries including SC and HC Judges.

Hostel Facilities

1.5

The accommodation is not good, there are separate boys' and girls' hostels. First years are allocated to flats shared among 8 members, second year onwards there are double-sharing rooms and seniors can even get single rooms. There is no air conditioning in rooms, however, the mess is airconditioned. The mess is run by a student-run mess committee in collaboration with the admin.

Admission

Admission is through CLAT, there is reservations for SC, ST WB Domicile, OBC, NRI Sponsored, J&K, PWD, as well as Foreign Nationals. The expected cutoffs go around AIR 190-AIR 280 for Unreserved. CLAT Is done once a year and has no upper limit for UG Course.

Faculty

3.5

The Student-Faculty ratio is around 50:1, and the faculties, at least the associate professors have multiple publications and research projects under their belts. Some have been practising advocates and corporate lawyers before joining the academia. The teaching method being employed varies, from case law analysis to discussions, research and real-world applications.

Placement Experience:

Number of students who have been placed is far less than what it should be ideally. Kolkata is a paradise for law practice as it is the largest city of India and lawyers have always been in demand here. Still only 30% of the students are placed here and that's a big issue considering the name of our college.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The main thing that I love about the curriculum is that we need to study in depth. Our syllabus contains most basic to really professional level stuff which really help us prepare for real life experiences and further academic pursuits. The only change i would like is more practical experiences that would be helpful.

I was fond of international reletaions in my +2 days, thats why I choose Political Science as my honours subject over History. Hence. later I found very boring and monotonous in the first year of its syllabus. After having 3 years of immense syllabus, I have finally fall in love with subject in the final as my beloved IR(International Relations) subjects finally came into my life. There was yearly only one exam contains 2 parts accumating questions.
