Admission:

Applied to KIIT and even got confirmed admission, but chose IIT Madras BS (Data Science & Applications) because it felt more credible and future-proof. The IIT tag carries strong trust, and the program is built in a way that pushes real skill-building through structured learning, not just attendance. Another big reason was career support. IITM BS has focused internship and placement opportunities through its ecosystem, and that mattered more than just “getting a seat”. Also, the term-wise course registration is a real advantage—workload can be planned, so it stays manageable alongside internships, freelance work, or a side hustle. There wasn’t a rejection story here—KIIT was confirmed. The decision was mainly about fit: IITM BS felt higher demand, more authentic, and more flexible without compromising rigor. Admission experience: there is no GD or interview. Admission mainly happens through the Qualifier route (4 weeks of coursework + an in-person qualifier exam), and some students enter through JEE Main direct entry. Cutoffs vary by category and term, so it’s best to check the latest official criteria for the exact numbers.

Admission:

Why this college felt like the best fit IIT Madras BS stands out mainly because it offers an IIT-level curriculum with a flexible, term-wise structure. The biggest advantage over many private online programs is that learning is assessment-driven and structured. Many aspirants also look at options like private online degrees, local BCA/BSc colleges, or distance programs. The main difference is that IITM BS feels more rigorous and exam-focused, while many other options feel easier but less structured and less credible in the long run. Often it’s not only about ability, rejections happen because of high cutoffs, missing eligibility (Math/English requirements), or strong competition in entrance-based colleges. Some students also drop because fees are high, outcomes are unclear, or the program feels too theory-heavy. Admissions are possible through direct entry for JEE Main qualifiers, or through the qualifier route: complete the 4-week online coursework, then clear an in-person qualifier exam. The qualifier has subject-wise minimums and an overall minimum score, so it’s not a free entry, but it is more skill-based than rank-based. The program is open to students from different streams, but it expects Math and English at least up to Class 10. For the qualifier exam, students must clear both the overall cutoff and the per-subject cutoff; widely shared criteria are: General 50% overall + 40% per subject, OBC-NCL/EWS 45% overall + 35% per subject, and SC/ST/PwD 40% overall + 30% per subject. Most students prefer the qualifier route because it is the most common entry path for non-JEE learners.

I choose this college over the another colleges because it is the best degree degree over the BTech from low level or tier three tier four colleges, I was having many options for T3 colleges BTech CSE, but I chose this because I think it's the best I apply to SRMS Bareilly University all the colleges I was confirmed, but I chose this college because it was providing me latest curriculum and data science is very new in this. The admission process for this degree is like if you will register in a term, you have to pay. Thousand rupee registration fee. After that you will get a syllabus of one month or we can say four weeks you have to do that, and after that, you will be having exam, you have to pass the exam with more than 50%.

IIT Madras: 11 Answered Questions

I scored 121 in my JEE exam. I would like to know if I’m eligible for admission to IIT Madras.

Muskan Agrahari

No, with 121 in JEE Main, you will not be eligible for IIT Madras admission because IITs accept JEE Advanced scores and not JEE Main. If your 121 is JEE Main, check if you are among the first 2.5 lakh students who can appear for JEE Advanced. Only candidates with a good rank in JEE Advanced can get through in IIT Madras.

Quick Breakdown:

Criteria Details
Exam Required JEE Advanced (not JEE Main)
What your score means 121 in JEE Main may not qualify you for JEE Advanced cutoff

Can I get an IIT with 4000 JEE Advanced Rank?

Shivam Ranjanstudied at IIT BHU (Graduated 2022)

I recently completed my Graduation from IIT BHU. Securing a rank of 4000 in JEE Advanced is a commendable achievement, and it opens up several opportunities for admission into the Indian Institutes of Technology. However, whether you can get admission into a specific IIT with this rank depends on various factors including:

  • Some branches are more competitive than others, so the cutoff ranks may vary accordingly.
  • Each IIT has a different number of seats available for each branch, and the cutoff ranks can fluctuate based on this.
  • Reservation quotas may affect the cutoff ranks for different categories (General, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, etc.).
  • The difficulty level of the exam can influence the cutoff ranks.

Here are the cutoff trends for B.Tech Admissions at various IITs (for CSE and Civil Engineering branches, Open Category seats)-

B.Tech cutoff trend at the IITs through JEE Advanced (Open Category)

College Name B.Tech CSE B.Tech Civil Engineering
IIT Madras 148 6132
IIT Delhi 118 4472
IIT Bombay 67 4371

IIT Guwahati 654 8453
IIT Hyderabad 674 9303
IIT Indore 1385 10994
