IIT Madras Placement 2025: Highest Package, Average Package, Top Recruiters

IIT Madras has concluded its 2023 placement drive. 445 students were reported to have been placed on the first day itself. Students received 407 pre-placement offers. 25 students received a salary package higher than INR 1 CPA. The job roles offered to the students include Software Development Engineer, Data Science, Quant, Core Engineer, etc.

During IIT Madras Placements 2022, the B.Tech CSE batch received an average salary of INR 41.72 LPA.

The Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering is one of the oldest having been started in the same year as the Institute. Its teaching, research, and consultancy activities spread across various fields ranging from conventional metallurgy to frontiers of materials science.

However, IIT Madras lacks core companies for every branch for placements. The same is the case with the Metallurgy department. Students should be encouraged from the beginning of their course for placements. In the worst-case scenario, only a single student gets placed in a core company.

Control and Instrumentation stream is one of the popular specializations offered in the M.Tech program at IIT Madras. The placements for this stream are generally good, with a high percentage of students getting placed in reputed companies in India and abroad.

• Placement statistics: In the past few years, the Control and Instrumentation stream has seen a placement rate of around 80-90%. Many students from this stream have been placed in reputed companies such as Honeywell, Schneider Electric, Siemens, ABB, GE, L&T, Tata Steel, and many more.
• Average salary package: The average salary package for students in the Control and Instrumentation stream is around INR 10-12 lakhs per annum. However, the salary package may vary depending on factors such as the candidate's academic performance, work experience, skills, and the company's requirements.
• Types of job roles: Students from the Control and Instrumentation stream are generally recruited for job roles such as control engineer, instrumentation engineer, process engineer, automation engineer, systems engineer, and project engineer, among others. • Placement process: The placement process at IIT Madras usually begins in the final semester of the M.Tech program. Students from the Control and Instrumentation stream can apply for job openings through the CGPU and also participate in company-specific recruitment drives.

The campus placements of most IITs are superior to other Engineering colleges. The new IITs have fewer companies in comparison to the older IITs yet the payscale of IITs, in general, is very good. 

IIT Madras gives more importance to Day-wise placements but I feel one should look for matching profiles instead. This is because there is a major chunk of good companies visiting the campus on later days as well. The slotting system at IITM does not give equal importance to the profile of the company as it gives to the number of positions any company is willing to take and the packages they are offering.

The best part of the placement season is the harmony between the juniors and seniors who provide a lot of assistance during placements. You will see a frenzy of students helping each other even without knowing each other.
