IIT Madras Placement report 2025 has been released for various programs. As per the DOMS (Department of Management Studies) Placement Report 2025, the highest package stood at INR 35.5 LPA, while for the Tech MBA batch, the highest package stood at 81 LPA. The top recruiters included Accenture, Deloitte, Cognizant, ICICI Bank, Flipkart, Grant Thornton, etc.

As per the IIT Madras NIRF 2025 report, the median package for UG (4-year) was INR 17.50 LPA and for UG (5-year) was INR 19.40 LPA in 2024. Further, the median packages for PG (2-year) and PG (3-year) were INR 12.90 LPA and INR 12.25 LPA, respectively, in 2024.

480 companies participated in the IIT Madras Placement 2024. Some of the top recruiters included Apple, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, EY, Reliance, TCS, Capital One, Texas Instruments, Bajaj Auto Ltd, Cetak Ltd, and Qualcomm, among others. A total of 1091 students secured placements. IIT Madras has placed about 80% of students from BTech & dual degree courses and 75% of students from M.Tech courses. From the end of their 3rd year, students become eligible for placements. Many companies visited our campus and the total number of offers were around 400. Some notable companies are Google, Microsoft, Adobe and Amazon. Anout 60% of the students get placed. My friend has enrolled himself for B.Sc. Data Science and Programming course from IIT M. He carefully accessed the course curriculum.

Generally, in the electrical branch, almost 80-90% of students get placed. The highest salary package offered is 1 CPA. The lowest salary package offered is 12 LPA. The top recruiting companies are Jane Street, Google, and Microsoft. Almost 60% of students got internships in P&G and Dr. Reddy Laboratory. The top roles offered are engineer in petroleum industries and analyst in pharmaceuticals.

However, Power Systems and Power Electronics branch has its own shortcomings.

Although most companies of EE allow Power students to sit for placements, if they lack knowledge of ECE subjects of GATE, they cannot clear the written test
You will have limited options unless you are proficient in VLSI. Interviewers may not consider you if you haven’t done VLSI courses
Core companies of Power Electronics hardly visit the campus. Those that do visit, either require a high cutoff like 9 CGPA like Enphase Systems or offer a package lower than 8 LPA.

My friend graduated from IIT Madras a few months ago and was devastated by the placement scenario of her branch. It almost seems that only Electrical and Computer Science students were eligible for decent placements, rest all suffered.

Talking about Metallurgy specifically, he did not find a single core company visiting the campus for placements almost as if the branch was non-existent. He was told to maintain a good CGPA of 7-8+ for core roles but no core company visited.

In case you are looking for a high-paying non-core job, which is the case for most IITians, you will have to appear for several written and online exams not related to your specialization. You will have to make a good resume by including extra skills, developing your personality, and going the extra mile in your academics to achieve a high-paying job.

Concludingly, Metallurgy has little or no core job prospects so you will have to work hard to get non-core jobs.

The median package offered to the B.Tech. students is INR 18 lacs per annum. There were more than 400 companies which placed B.Tech. students. Bajaj Auto, Cetak, TCS, Reliance, Qualcomm, Amazon, EY India are the major recruiters of B.Tech. program.

Last year, around 407 students were awarded preplacement offers and 25 candidates received an offer of salary package of 1 crore per annum. Some of the top recruiters was Texas Instruments, Bajaj Auto Ltd, Cetak Ltd, Qualcomm, Amazon, EY India, Reliance, TCS, etc.

The highest CTC (Cost to Company) package offered to IIT Madras student was INR 1.31 crore per year. The lowest package offered was INR 5.4 lacs per year. There were 172 offers made which were above 30 lacs. The popular recruiters include American Express, Cogoport, Linecraft, AI and Sap Labs.
