What JEE Advanced rank is needed for IIT Bombay B.Tech admission 2027?

Computer Science closed at rank 66 in the OPEN category in JoSAA 2025 Round 1. Core branches close far beyond that. A rank inside the top 3,000 gives you a realistic shot at some IIT Bombay branch.

Does IIT Bombay conduct its own counselling for B.Tech?

No. B.Tech seats are allotted centrally by JoSAA using your JEE Advanced rank. IIT Bombay only handles document verification and reporting after the allotment.

Is there a management quota or direct admission at IIT Bombay?

No. There is no management quota, no NRI quota and no donation seat at IIT Bombay. Every seat is filled through an entrance exam and published merit.

Is a GATE score enough for IIT Bombay M.Tech admission 2027?

No. A valid GATE score only gets you shortlisted. Many departments conduct a further written test, an interview, or both before making an offer.

Can a non-engineering graduate apply for the IIT Bombay MBA?

Yes. The MBA accepts a bachelor's degree in any discipline. You need 60% aggregate or a CPI of 6.5, relaxed to 55% or 6.0 for SC, ST and PwD candidates.

Can a commerce or arts student apply for B.Des at IIT Bombay?

Yes. UCEED is open to Class 12 students from every stream. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are not required for the design route.

How many seats does IIT Bombay have?

IIT Bombay offered around 1,360 undergraduate seats in the JoSAA seat matrix. The M.Tech brochure listed an intake of 938 students across departments. Exact figures change each year.

What is the B.Tech fee at IIT Bombay?

The tuition fee for general category undergraduate students is around INR 1,00,000 per semester. Hostel, mess and other charges are extra. Fees are subject to revision, so check the official IIT Bombay website for exact figures.

Are there extra seats for female candidates at IIT Bombay?

Yes. IIT Bombay adds supernumerary seats for female candidates in every B.Tech programme. These are extra seats over the regular matrix and have their own closing ranks.

Can I take part in CSAB special rounds for an IIT Bombay seat?

No. CSAB special rounds fill vacant seats only at NITs, IIITs, IIEST and GFTIs. IIT seats are not part of CSAB counselling.

Placement Experience:

Placements you get in pre-final sem. Google, Microsoft, Worldquant, janestreet, accenture, citi, HSBC etc etc more than 500 company visits. Higest was 4Cr last year, avg would be around 15-16 LPA more than 97 percent get the placement from my dept. I will be going to corporate.

IITB, what many dream of

Likes

There are a lot of students who have big goals in their life so being friends with them really helps in pushing myself harder each day.
The campus provides with a lot of opportunities for excelling in any field.
The campus in big and beautiful with all the required facilities and the seniors here are very helpful too.

Dislikes

The hostel rooms for 2nd and 3rd year UG students are very bad.
The competition among students is very high
The grading in many of the courses is relative so becomes really hard to get a good grade

Placement Experience:

as high as 95% of students get placed after completing a UG degree. Placements start in the 7th semester when almost all the renowned companies come to hire students. The highest package offered in 2023 was about 3.7 crore(converted to INR from USD) with an average of about 21-22 lakhs INR.

I like the peer group, all the amazing people I met till now is immense
There is a lot to explore in the campus

Dislikes

The Hostels. The pest issue has to be addressed ASAP, Im fed up of looking at cockroaches, lizards and ants and mouse running around at walls.
The gender ratio is quite bad, very few girl students for such a prestigious institute as IITB
I dont like how BIG the campus is, and we dont even get to keep electric vehicles and scooters.

Completing at least 7 sems in the insti makes you eligible for placements! we have a dedicated campus placements cell for the same which works hard to ensure students are getting placed and receive desirable packages. I think that everyone knows all the top companies that come up to IITB to offer packages like 1.5 CR 2CR, 2.5CR, and 3CR. If I had to name then it'd be Google, apple microsoft, Abbott, BCG{google the fullform}, McKinsey, Rubrick etc the companies provide very handsome packages to students average is around 30-45 LPA. around 90-95% of students get placed. I am considering doing an MBA or exploring my research interests in materials science to pursue an MS in a foreign university.

Exploring IIT Bombay

I liked the campus very much as it is free of pollution.
I also liked the hostel culture of IIT BOMBAY.
I liked the academics and extracurricular activities.

Dislikes

I disliked the toughness of some courses.
I also disliked the relative grading method.

Placement Experience:

From the 7th semester, students become eligible for the placements. The names of the companies visited are Google, Microsoft, Apple, Piramal etc. They offered around 1300 for placement. The percentage of students placed is 85. I am planning to get placements after getting my degree.

Campus is too great. It includes powai lake and sameer hill
Placement of iit bombay are of another level. Highest package is of 4 crore per anum
Faculty here is too experienced they help there students in research and in every field

Course Curriculum Overview:

The courses curriculum is not chill you have to stay focused in the classroom. If the class participation is good then it is not heavy. Many faculty have their bachelors from iit bombay itself amd masters from foreign universities. The gamder ratio here is 4:1

beautiful campus and great off campus life
college offers a lot of freedom to dive deep into any carrier you wanna choose later on
great infrastructure and great peer group

Dislikes

the academic load gets sometimes too much to bear
nothing as such till now but the mess food can be better
the TAs in some of the courses need to chill a little bit

Great placements provided you work for the same and it gets really competitive here during the internship and placement season. The highest packages are generally international packages and they differ each year but the overall average package stays around 21-22 lakhs per annum.

The environment and exposure, it changes the way you are completely .
the place in general, as IIT B is located in the financial capital Mumbai so you can have a lot of fun outside the institute too.

Dislikes

the hectic schedule, people say once you get into IIT you're all set that's not the case you still need to make effort to a equivalent level.

Placement Experience:

from the 7th semester people are eligible for campus placement. there are more than 100+ companies and 500+ offers so to give a exact number is difficult. the highest package last year was around 4 Cr and average is around 20 LPA. the exact stats are never released by IIT bomay officialy so it can vary. my plans is to secure a job in software or quant.

There are no curfew timings, we can enter exit the campus anytime.
There are canteens available till 4am, with reduced prices.
The work compared to value of degree is quite less

Personal vehicles are not allowed inside the campus.

Placement Experience:

Placements are one of the best in India. More than 200 companies visit the campus from packages ranging from 20LPA to 3.5cr per annum in foreign countries. The highest domestic packages are around 50LPA. almost 90percent of people get placed
