Likes
- Teaching here is top notch , the faculty is highly experienced and there are teaching assisstents too which help us in understanding the concepts really well
- Placements of iit mandi are great and more than 400 companies including top companies like amazon, google, microsoft etc.
- Good thing is that college provides scholarship for economically backward students .
Dislikes
- There is a lack of proper course layout, examination systems and management
- Branch change- from 2024 onwards there will be no branch change . i think its bad decision as it was giving opportunities to the students to change their branches if they dont like the course structure .
- Faculty: some faculty are very rude to students and grading is relatively tough.

Likes
- The campus is situated in the Himalayas which has its own merits. Natural Beauty with unpolluted air.
- The weather here is quite nice, you will find yourself in state of aw after seeing through window after rain, clouds stuck amidst the big mountains.
- If you are from circuital branch then you have better chances of getting good placement as mostly all companies allow all the circuital branches.
Dislikes
- The academic section is slow and work like normal government office. Most rules for academics are not in favor of students. They require amendments especially in cases of approval after getting internship.
- Hostel facilities are worst where the college don't have enough of infrastructure and admitting large no. of students as herds. In a room where only 1 people can fit have been provided to 2 students. Similarly 4 students are forced in room of 3.
- Transport facilities are worse where if you have to attend class in north campus and you have to go from south then there are 80 % chances that bus will fill and you will miss the class. On special permission few busses have been added.
Placement Experience:
Students are eligible for placement from 7th semester.
Some of the big tech giants visit us like google , Microsoft, Oracle, Samsung, Texas Instruments, Uber, Paytm, walmart, Flipkart, amazon, etc. Offers made in 2022-23 are more than 150 where company count was more than 70.
Highest package is around 63 LPA (INDIA) whereas more than 1 CR (Out of India). Average package is around 33 LPA in 2022-23. Almost 80%+ students sitting in placement gets placed (according to 2022-23 data). My plan is to join tech firm either as SDE or Data Scientist.

Likes
- The location of this college is best for people who like to live in peace and it is between mountains.
- If you are lucky then you may experience snowfall in campus during winters.
- Mess food is generally better than other IITs.
Dislikes
- Travelling is a big issue here. You may find difficulty travelling to different places from this college.
- Most of the common entertainment resources are very far from college. You may not experience city life while living in this college.
- College management is not up to the mark
Placement Experience:
For placement, companies usually come in the starting of 7th semester. Some companies that visit our college are Accenture, HDFC Bank, Zomato, Flipkart, HCL, etc.
Highest package around 60lpa
Average varies from year to year but generally around 20 lpa.
Around 70-80 percent get placed with decent package.

- The director is quite stubborn and don't consider students feeling

The course curriculum is good as expected from an IIT. We have courses in every department and can pursue many academic courses according to your interests. AIl courses are also available in the college.

I have gone through the faculty profile given on the official website of IIT Mandi. It looks similar to that of all newly established IITs, except for IIT Gn and IIT H, which are better than the others.
One of my friends is also a student of the Mechanical branch at IIT Mandi. Most of the faculty members in the Mechanical branch are married couples. One of them got a job here and after that, they recommended their spouses.
In terms of research, the branch is not that good. Most of the faculties just mug up a research paper and publish a new one. One of the faculties became associate by doing the same. If you want to pursue higher studies in Mechanical, then don’t choose IIT Mandi.
